There are dozens of playable characters in Honkai: Star Rail. The cast has grown incrementally since the game’s launch in 2023, and we’ll list every character you can currently put in your party in this guide. Provided, of course, you’ve added them to your roster via the gacha system.
How Honkai: Star Rail characters work

Each character in Honkai: Star Rail is on a Path, a descriptor that helps define how they function, the abilities they can use, and what role th🧸ey play on your teams. For instance, a Destruction, Hunt, or Erudition character is a damage dealer.
Additionally, each character has an Element that defines their damage type: Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind, Physical, Imaginary, and Quantum. Last, characters are also split across a star-rarity level. Rarer five-star units and more accessible four-star characters. Most five-stars are “limited,” meaning they’re only available for three weeks on a special, rotating basis. A small selection of characters is always available to pull for on the “standard” banner.
All Honkai: Star Rail characters and their Paths
As of February 2025, there are 65 characters available in Honkai: Star Rail🐈, with at least another dozen on the way🏅 during the 3.0 update period. The 3.0 update also introduced a new Path — Remembrance — which will receive plenty of attention going forward.
All Abundance Path characters in Honkai: Star Rail

Abundance characters are healers first and foremost, though units like Lingsha bridge the gap between healer and DPS. 🦩The best units that follow this Path can heal outside their place in the action order and cleanse debuffs from allies. The three in the top tier — Lingsha, Gallagher, and Huohuo — can also provide buffs to the team and/or apply debuffs to enemies.

All Destruction Path characters in Honkai: Star Rail

Destruction characters are a slightly more versatile group of damage dealers. Their attacks have one primary and up to two secondary targets. How they do that varies from unit to unit. The best options in the game either enable their teammates to do more damage (Firefly’s weakness implant) or have a frankly absurd amount of counter-attack potential (Yunli and her Ultimate counter).

All Hunt Path characters in Honkai: Star Rail

Characters that follow the Path of the Hunt are single-target specialists. All Preservation Path characters in Honkai: Star Rail

Another sustain-centric Path, Preservation is about preventing rather than healing damage via shields or redirecting damage away from more vulnerable units. The undisputed king of Preservation is Aventurine, whose shields can be made unbreakable with the right build and playstyle. Don’t count out Fu Xuan’s ability to tank damage for her teammates, but AoE damage will make quick work of her. Gepard is a fine option if you don’t have any limited characters.

All Remembrance Path characters in Honkai: Star Rail

The newest Path in Honkai: Star Rail, Remembrance is a bit of a catch-all. Its DPS unit at launch, Aglaea, is one of the 🌟best damage dealers in the game at her release, and the Remembrance Trailblazer is a free S-Tier support-style character. These units rely almost entirely on their memosprite summons to function, but so long as that summon is on the field, Remembrance characters will put in work.
Character Name | Release | Rarity | Element | Meta Rating |
Agalaea | Update 3.0 | Limited 5-Star | Lightning | S-Tier |
Trailblazer | Update 3.0 | Free 5-Star | Ice | S-Tier |
