Are Insomniac's Wolverine and Spider-Man games in the same universe wolverine about to do a wolverine

Are Insomniac’s Wolverine and Spider-Man games in the same universe?

Will the wolverine play with the spiders?

Now that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out in the wild, developer Insomniac Games’ next big release will likely be Marvel’s Wolverine. But with the developer behind them both, we wonder: Do Insomniac’s Wolverine and Spider-Man games share the same universe?

According to Spider-Man 2‘s director, they do. As , via an interview with the crew, Creative Director Bryan Intihar said both games exist in universe 1048 (Marvel’s Spider-Man‘s comic universe confirmed by “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse”).

“They’re all 1048,” Intihar said during the interview. “I think I got that right.”

For those confused, Marvel or DC universes are numbered or given a designation. And yes, it is to keep track of how many realities exist in comics, usually because comics. For context, the “main universe” in Marvel Comics is Earth-616 which was first coined back in the ’80s.

Will Wolverine and Spider-Man ever meet in the games?

Insomniac’s Wolverine and Spider-Man games do exist in the same universe, so are they destined to meet? It’s certainly possible, but it’s way too early to say for sure. Insomniac’s Wolverine won’t be out for a little while, as all we have so far on the game is a teaser from two years ago. But the potential is immense. Having Wolverine elect the help of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales may happen, and the concept is certainly exciting.

If it does occur, it could spark the beginning of a potential Marvel game universe led by Insomniac. Granted, that’s just effervescent speculation on my part. It would be a major undertaking and the studio may want to keep the focus narrow. However, I can’t help but think of a possible future where a digital Spider-Man can chill with the likes of Wolverine or the Fantastic Four (the Baxter Building is in the game). And maybe we’ll finally learn where the hell the Avengers have been hiding. But maybe not.
