Disgraced movie star Armie Hammer is now aiming at a comeback by starring in a movie called The Dark Knight. The project has nothing to do with Batman’s epic — not even the director — as instead of Christopher Nolan, we’ll be getting none other than Uwe Boll.
Though he never got a big hit of his own, Armie Hammer never stopped getting big roles in Hollywood until 2021, when various women accused him of sexual misconduct and cannibalistic intent. Weirdly enough, Hammer was even set to star as Batman in George Miller’s Justice League Mortal in the late ’00s, but that ended up being canceled. Hammer is now seemingly haviಞng another go at banking on that caped crusader fame via this highly dubious project.
Speaking with his The Dark Knight, saying, “Hammer plays Sanders, who takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals. While his crusade transforms him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public, the local police chief sees him as a menace to society and aims to take him down.”
Executive producer Michael Roesch addressed the elephant in the room, stating, “our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion.” I doubt anyone would mistake a Nolan movie for a Boll one — especially because this edgy vigilante sounds one hell of a lot more like Snyder’s Batman.
If the name Uwe Boll doesn’t immediately hit you with a sense of unease, that’s likely because your brain did an awesome job of erasing quite a lot of awful memories. Uwe Boll has directed more than 10 video game adaptations and has titles such as The House Of The Dead, Alone In The Dark, and Postal under his belt. You could blame him for single-handedly creating the longstanding notion that video games couldn’t be adapted to film, and despite that not being quite right, I doubt anyone would bother correcting you.
Outside of his various horrendous adaptations, Boll also directed Rampage, a movie about a mass shooting where the shooter is the main character as well as the hero. He did Auschwitz after that — the movie, I believe it is important to note — which I haven’t seen, but I’m sure was made in very good taste.
The Dark Knight will be Uwe Boll’s 37th film and likely not his last.
Hammer is also set to make a more serious return to acting in Travis Mills’ upcoming Frontier Crucible. As for Boll, you can see his masterpiece Alone In The Dark on Amazon Prime Video. It’s currently sitting at 1% fresh.
