Avowed: Marius Companion and Build Guide

A jack of all trades!

Among the many companions you can choose from in Avowed, it is easy to see how Marius is one of the most versatile. Whether you need a strong ranger or a good support companion, he will do the trick. Let’s see how to build him up to suit your preferences.

Best Abilities to unlock for Marius in Avowed

As you play Avowed, you can collect seven points that you can use to level up the abilities of your companions. You don’t have to worry about choosing the wrong abilities or spreading your points out too much, as you can easily reset them with a few hundred coins.

With that in ♑mind, these are the best abilities to prioritize for Marius:

  • Binding Roots: Immobilize enemies
  • Heart Seeker: Fire a self-guided arrow

Binding roots is unlocked right at the beginning for Marius, and it co🐼njures roots that bind enemies in place for 8 seconds. It also damages them once upgraded.

By using it against bigger, more dangerouไs enemies, you can keep them at bay an⛦d deal damage without worrying about a counterattack. There are three further upgrades for the Binding Roots ability:

  • Constricting Roots: trapped enemies will be stunned by the roots.
  • Grasping Roots: several enemies in a small area get immobilized by the roots.
  • Thorny Roots: the roots deal Bleed Accumulation to trapped enemies.

Overall, the🐟 combo of Constricting Roots and Grasping ꦯRoots can be quite effective for Marius. We prioritize these two but also make sure to get Thorny Roots so we can deal damage to the trapped enemies.

By using Heart Seeker, Marius can fire an arrow from anywhere, regardless of whether he can actually see the enemies. The arrow automatically targets an enemy and also deals a good amount of꧙ damage.

This ability should be prioritized, as it is his best – at least if you want Marius to help you during combat. You can further upgrade Marius’ Heart Seeker abili😼ty by choosing tꦑhe following upgrades:

  • Twinned Shot: Heart Seeker hits twice in one shot.
  • Sharpshooter: if an enemy is hit by the Heart Seeker arrow while below 50% Health, the damage is augmented.
  • Quick Draw: Reduces the cooldown for the Heart seeker arrow by 33%.

Out of 🌌these three upgrades, the cooldown reduction in Quick Draw should be a priority, and then also the Twinned Shot ability so you can hit more enemies while using the ability only once.

Marius’ abilities, explained

The other abilities that Marius has are Shadow Step and Wounding Shots. By using the former, Marius teleports to a target and slashes them up to three times, while Wounding Shots mဣakes his arrows🎃 inflict Bleed on enemies, which causes damage over time.

While both abilities have their ﷺuse, Wounding Shots is better as it pairs well with Binding Roots, especially with the Thorny Roots upgrade.

If you want a look into each perk for this best Marius build, here 𒐪are all of their abilities with their respective upgrades and what they do.

AbilitiesWhat they do
Binding Roots (Core)Immobilize enemies on the spot for 8 seconds
Constricting Roots (Binding roots upgrade)Apply Stun to the immobilized enemies

Best Companion to pair with Marius in Avowed

Since Marius is not the strongest fighter, but can still be a key ally in delivering damage and preventing enemies from moving around too much, I recommend pairing him with a s🌠trong health support unit. Of course, I refer to the healer Giatta.

Her abilities couple perfectly with those of Marius. Not only can she provide last-minute healing in most situations by using her P🌟urification skill, but coupled with Reconstruction𒊎, she will also gift the party passive healing so you and Marius can continue fighting.

If you are playing as a ranger, on the other hand, together with Marius, you can consider bringing along Kai. Coupled with Marius’ abilities, Kay’s unique skills (such as Leap of Daring) can be the key to keeping the enemies’ focus elsewhere and dealing damage while they are being taunted.
