Despite being out for almost a year, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still going strong, especially as the highly-anticipated Patch 7 approaches. With it, we have many features to behold, from more detailed evil endings to Honour Mode improvements. But the one that takes the cake is the official integration of BG3’s modding toolkit.
Ever since Baldur’s Gate 3 made its triumphant debut, almost everyone was getting on board with modding. I remember seeing some of the wackiest stuff added on, including one hysterical feature that placed a ‘Was a Goat for 10 years’ element to your origin story. However, official modding support wasn’t available. Patch 7, when it arrives in September, aims to change that.
According to , the official modding toolkit will arrive in September 2024. You’ll be able to try out a “range of new game mods” and even get to create some of your own. Various features like cosmetics, classes/subclasses, User Interface, races, and quality-of-life improvements are customizable. You’ll also get the chance to create the perfect D20 with designable dice skins.
Larian Studios brought in some mod authors for the Closed Alpha testing to make the𒈔 modding integration more successful. We got a glimpse of some of their creations that may be available to use. In particular, Mod Aut🐎hor Padme4000 discussed how they utilized the upcoming toolkit to make CC colors for better character visuals.
The official modding toolkit is one of many things on the horizon for Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7. One, in particular, is an upcoming update to multiplayer, adding dynamic split-screen. Any time you’re out on the town with a friend on co-op, you’ll have the ability to merge your screens to a single screen whenever you’re close to each other. That way, you can experience the wonders of the Forgotten Realms side-by-side.
There will be general improvements across the board. Honour Mode will receive more Legendary Actions, and Origin characters will be improved upon with a few adjustments. Some tweaks are simple but necessary, like an enhancement to Astarion’s kissing animations (wink, wink).
There are a ton of other features to discover, such as the new cinematics for evil endings and some party banter enhancements. If you want to start on Patch 7 early, sign up for the Closed Beta on July 22, 2024. Registrations are now open on , where you can hit ‘Request Access.’
Patch 7 isn’t even the final update, as Larian Studios aims to bring more content with crossplay and photo mode. With the promise of more community-requested content, it looks like the Baldur’s Gate 3 hype train isn’t slowing down.
