Baldur’s Gate 3: Where to find Halsin

Yes, he's the bear guy.

Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3 eludes you at the beginning of the game. However, he can become a party member after finishing a particular quest. His motives, however, seem odd, depending on your choices. Here’s where to find Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Freeing Halsin from the Goblin Camp prison

To find Halsin, you’ll first need to save him from the goblins. He’s locked up in the cells nearby the Goblin Camp west of the Emerald Grove. Get yourself inside and then go to the top right area. You’ll find a doorway that leads you to the Worg Pens. Once you’re there, you’ll find a green-lit Cave Bear in a cell on the top right. As Halsin’s a Druid, he’s turned himself into this animal. Eliminate all of the goblins in this area to free him. He’ll join you mid-battle as he breaks the bars in a cutscene. Just make sure he doesn’t die during the battle. It works similarly to how the Fire Emblem games work. Once he’s dead, there’s no going back.

After talking to Halsin, you can ask him to team up with you against the three boss goblins. Once this matter is settled, he’ll become a permanent party member. And yes, he’s that bear in the romantic scene you’ve likely heard about.

How to meet Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3

You don’t need to meet him at the prison, however. The hero of the Druids Halsin introduces himself after finishing off the three goblins in their camp. Just make sure you don’t encounter the goblins at the camp after the fact; I made that mistake and needed to load a prior save. Halsin saves himself funnily enough! This comes after trying to resolve the situation between the Druids and the Teiflings about the evacuation against goblin ꦇforces.

Somehow, when you arrive back in Emerald Grove, Halsin is completely cool with you killing off his own kind. He just wishes he was there to stop them from starting a war. He actually tells you he wants to join your party. After you celebrate with the townsfolk, he’ll appear the next day in your camp. He’ll lead you to the origin of the infection you have: Moonrise Towers.

What happens if Halsin dies?

Because so much in Baldur’s Gate 3 is optional — including Halsin — if the druid is killed by any means, c’est la vie. It means horrible things for not just the grove but also the Shadow-Cursed Lands, but both quests are optional, so life, tragically, goes on wi💝thout the druid.

If you have let Halsin die, either accidentally or on purpose, you can use Speak with Dead to talk with him, or loot him to nab a Camp Supply Sack, 2x Goodberries, 2x Potion of Healing, a Scroll of Revivify, a Quarterstaff, a pair of Tasteful Boots, Halsin’s Grove Garments, a pair of Druidic Bracers, a pair of Grovetender Boots, and Druid Leather Armour. Regardless of which you choose, some of the aforementioned quests with Halsin tie into the overarching checklist of things to do in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1, so consider your choices wisely.
