When talking about the best weapons for solo players in Monster Hunter World, two fac🧔tors play the biggest roles; DPS and adaptability. You can check out both our tier list and why each weapon made it to each tier below:

  • SS-Tier
    • Long Sword: A weapon that suffers from success, the Long Sword offers the perfect blend of speed and range, all while dealing high damage via its Spirit Blade chains.
    • Great Sword: Its sheer charged damage and stagger make the Greatsword a perfect pick for any hunt, although its slow attacks and weight might require you to commit after each swing.
    • Light Bowgun: A highly mobile pick for ranged builds, capable of quickly applying statuses and dealing damage via its high fire rate and the way you can freely pick the right ammo for the right job.
    • Switch Axe: A great all-rounder pick, boasting massive range and damage. I consider this weapon to be the perfect middleman between the Great and Longsword.
  • S-Tier
    • Dual Blades: A highly mobile but devastating weapon, known for its endless Demon Mode combos. Its inability to block makes it a high-risk, high-reward pick.
    • Heavy Bowgun: A ranged weapon that switches mobility for per-shot damage and stagger. Although its stationary focus can make it tricky to use when facing monsters alone, equipping the Shield mod can provide you with a lifeline.
    • Charge Blade: A caffeine-infused variant of the Sword and Shield. Shines defensively given its damage absorption while also having one of the game’s highest damage ceilings. Making active use of Element discharge will demand a lot of practice.
  • A-Tier
    • Sword and Shield: A jack of all trades, capable of dealing fast ounces of damage at close range while also allowing you to close in, dodge, and block effectively. The only weapon in the game that allows you to use items while wielded.
    • Insect Glaive: The game’s most mobile pick, which shines given its ability to set up mounting opportunities and let out large amounts of damage if paired with the right Kinsect.
    • Bow: The classic ranged option, the bow pairs a decent fire rate with the potential for massive damage. Like the Heavy and Light Bowguns, the ability to apply different coatings to your arrows will also allow you to adapt on the fly to most hunts.
    • Gunlance: A weapon especially handy when breaking through hard scales, the Gunlance allows you to stay protected behind one of the game’s best shields while dealing huge amounts of close to medium-range damage. Lacks the mobility of most of the above.
  • B-Tier
    • Lance: A weapon that stands out via its defensive capabilities and ability to retaliate while standing your ground. Lacks the damage of the above but its counter mechanic is one of the most satisfying moves to pull off in the game.
    • Hunting Horn: Lacks the damage seen by any of the picks above, which is to be expected given its supporting focus. One of the game’s best when the goal is stunning monsters.
    • Hammer: Another weapon capable of applying massive stun. Unfortunately, that only allows it to truly excel in multiplayer, where other players can make up for its lack in DPS and you will have an easier time striking vital points.

In clear contrast to the above, the importance of team synergy makes many high-utility weapons take the top spots in our Monster Hunter World co-op tier list. An example of that can be seen in the presence of the Hunting Horn on S-Tier, as its Melody buffs and high stagger make the weaponܫ the best for those in the supporting role, no matter the hunt in🧔 question.

To close it off, tank-focused weapons will be just as strong here as they are above, but keep in mind that your attacks can indeed affect your teammates and trip them. You can check out the best co-op weapons in Monster Hunter World below:
