BLGS Open Tournament announced as series that bridges the gap between ALGS events

The BLGS will keep you busy until Champs rolls around.

As the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs concluded, a brand new series was announced. The BLGS Open Tournament is a series that will run between the Split 2 Playo♛ffs and ๊the Championships for year 4 in early 2025. You can enjoy the matches across the tournament and avoid the usual lull between events.

The BLGS will run from just after the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs 2024 in October 2024 for five weekends of tournaments. Jack “NiceWigg” Martin and Athanasios “Greek” Alestas, the casters who do a wonderful job of running the B-stream for all ALGS events, will take center stage for the BLGS. The entire event will see teams from around the world compete for prize pools totaling $400,000 across the entire series. As an ALGS fan, I really appreciate how the series will fill in the void between ALGS LANs and keep the esport alive each week.

Apex Legends through to January

Historically, there have always been quite long gaps between ALGS LAN events. While the qualifiers that take place in between are fun to🔯 watch, the Spl🍰it 1, Split 2, and Championship tournaments are the majors that everyone tunes back in for.

The BLGS offers a reason to keep Apex Legends esports on the brain. This will be an Open Tournament for a wider range of teams to play in. Of course, what you want to see is more of the best of the best competing for huge prizes. But I like that the BLGS offers smaller, much lesser-known teams a chance to compete for real prize money in front of a decent chunk of the ALGS’ audience.

This is an open tournament centered around our B-stream, hence the name BLGS! NiceWigg and Greek have been so integral to the ALGS ecosystem and community, and they’re almost synonymous with the ALGS brand. So, really, we’ve wanted to host a competitive series around them for a while now. Given that Champs is going to be in January, this pocket, this window of opportunity, was perfect for us to do it.

Since the ALGS was launched in 2020, the fan base has grown every year with each event. The Split 2 Playoffs 2024 was the most-attended event in the tournament in Europe, and it’s only set to grow as we move into the year 4 Championship in Japan in 2025.

I usually attend the ALGS LANs, but I’m excited to know that for five solid weeks I’ll be able to sit down at the weekend and turn on the BLGS to enjoy just a little more Apex Legends esports. I think a lot of fans will be excited for this, especially because this is an event everyone can be involved with from home.ꦰ
