A double whammy of bad news came through for multiplayer game Blue Protocol. Not only is the end of service on the horizon in Japan, but western release plans have been ꦿcanceled entirely.
on “The Future of Blue Protocol” via the official website. The servers will shut down in Japan on January 18, 2025, and there will no longer be a collaboration with Amazon Games to launch Blue Protocol in the west.
“We have enjoyed a strong relationship with Amazon Games throughout the development of BLUE PROTOCOL,” read a statement from Bandai Namco Online. It went on to say, “both of our teams are disappointed that we will not be able to deliver the game to players around the world.”
The non-future of Blue Protocol
Blue Protocol had previously been hit with some delays along its road to a planned western launch. A closed technical test was held in North America and Europe in November 2023, giving players a chance to explore the world of Regnas,🅷 customize characters, challenge dungeons, and more.
As for why Blue Protocol has canceled its release and shut down its servers, there was mostly a boilerplate explanation. As Bandai Namco put it, it would be “beyond our capabilities to continue providing a service that satisfies everyone.”
In Japan, new content will continue to be released from now until the end of service. This includes new stories, so fans over there at least have a little bit more to look forward to in the coming months. As for the rest of us, we’ll just have to kiss our Regnas vacation plans goodbye.
