Bungie crowns Destiny 2 Salvation’s Edge world first winners

A new team takes the title.

Destiny 2 developer Bungie has been watching the race for world first in Salvation’s Edge more closely than any fans. While it took roughly 20 hours for a team to finally beat it, Bungie has confirmed that The Witness has been halted and Salvation’s Edge conquered.

The race for world first in Destiny 2‘s Salvation’s Edge raid has been going on since 1 PM ET on June 7, 2024. After just over 20 grueling hours, one fireteam has emerged victorious, with Bungie announcing them as the first team in the world to complete what will undoubtedly go down as Destiny 2’s 🌌most complicated raid. The winners will each receive raid jackets and exclusive prizes 👍for their efforts, but I imagine all they want is a nice long sleep.

The winners of the race to world first in Destiny 2: The Final Shape‘s Salvation’s Edge raid are:

  • Astro
  • bravo
  • DrakathShadow
  • Ham
  • Jake

Interestingly, this wasn’t one of the major teams that had won previous world first races. That doesn’t mean they’re complete newcomers, but it shows how this was anyone’s race. I think every team figured that out when they started taking down their live gameplay and exclusively streaming their faces.

Only Bungie can verify a world’s first completion in a raid, and after initial tentative results came in, the developer has that Tyraxe and their fireteam were the first players to reach the end of Salvation’s Edge and claim the loot chest at the end of the raid. That chest is important because it’s the trigger that notifies Bungie of which team has completed the raid first.

Following the announcement of the winners, that a new 12-player activity called Excision is coming to Destiny 2. This is the community’s reward for being so patient and watching so many competitors go head to head in the race over the 20 hours it took for one team to emerge as winners.

Finally, Bungie has also that on June 10, 2024, it will be publishing a video discussing the future of Destiny 2 over the next year.

This will likely cover Episodic content and everything else the developer has set up for players to enjoy in the future. The Final Shape is the last major expansion for the game for now, so it’ll be interesting to see what Bungie has planned to keep players engaged for a full year and if there’s anything waiting for us once that year is over.
