Destiny 2 players feeling a bit left out by Bungie’s focus on its Marathon reveal this weekend can take a dee𒀰p breath, according tꦬo a new This Week at Bungie blog post from the studio.
Bungie’s first “yet-to-be-released title outside of Destiny” in over 10 years, the extraction shooter reboot of decades-old franchise Marathon, will be showcased in a live-streamed gameplay reveal this weekend. But Destiny 2 fans have been waiting to hear more about the secretive Codename: Frontiers expansion for their favorite game.

aimed to “set some expectations for a world where Bungie is shipping two games,” meaning Marathon and Destiny 2 concurrently, but the studio says it is “excited for the challenge of finding a good balance” on how to communicate for both games.
But the good news is, Codename: Frontiers and its first half, Codename: Apollo, are still on track for a release in summer 2025. But that’s all the studio was willing to say for now, with the focus currently on Marathon this weekend and whatever else it has to offer soon.
“Our team is jamming away on Codenames: Frontiers & Apollo, and we’re chomping at the bit to share more details with you on our upcoming expansion,” Bungie said in the post. “Just a little more time, Guardians. We promise you’ll have more info soon.”
This means that whenever the dust settles for Marathon (Bungie said the extraction shooter “will begin its own journey” after Saturday), Destiny 2’s close future will be revealed ahead of the summer 2♈025 release date, which could be anywhere from June through September.
Destiny 2’s final story beat for its final Episode, Heresy, released earlier this week, so there’s nothing on the calendar for players to officially look forward to just yet. But once Apollo launches, the game will be once again reinvigorated with new story, locations, missions, weapons, gear, seasonal updates, season passes, and more.

Running one live-service gam൩ꩵe at a time is a challenge for any studio, so Bungie attempting to do two at the same time is quite ambitious. We should know sometime this year how the studio manages this lofty goal.
