Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter wer?e both released in 2014 and allowed players to move Pokémon between games. However, it’s been a decade since then, and things have moved on somewha??t in that time.

Now, moving Pokémon between current-gen games is remarkably easy thanks to Pokémon Home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t transfer Pokémon from previous gens if you’ve still got the softw??are and consoles to hand.

Current status of Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter

Sadly, the ability to download both Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter ended when the Nintendo 3DS store was shut down in March 2??023. This means that if you’ve just come into possession of a 3DS and were hoping to utilize the software, you’re out of luck.

However, if you’ve got an old 3DS that already has the software installed or is ready to re-install it in the library, you’ll still be able to use it by following the steps below. When the 3DS Store closed, Pokémon Bank became a free service rather than a subscription service, s??o you can now transfer as many Pokémon as you like entirely for free, provided you have the software.

Pokémon Home was released back in 2020, essentially replacing both Bank and Transporter and can work together with the two apps to bring past generat?ion Pokémon into more recent games.

This is where things start to get a little complicated, so you might want to set aside some time if youre hoping to start moving your Pokémo?n between games.

To start with, here’s the full compatibility of all games, including brief details about how?? t??he transfer works. Don’t worry, we’ll go more into detail below:

It’s worth noting that games that require the additional use of either Pokémon Bank or Poké Transporter cannot be transferred back to their original games. Pokémon games that were released for the Nintendo Switch and only require the use of Pokémon Home, however, can be transfe?rred back to their o??riginal locations.

How to transfer Pokémon using Bank, Transporter, and Home

For ease of r??eading and for lack of a better idea, let’s break this rather long and convoluted process down into individual steps. If a step doesn’t apply to you, then just skip over it until the information becomes relevant.

Step one: Third gen to fourth gen

Third gen Pokémon game
Image via Nintendo

This ste?p?? applies if you’re transferring Pokémon from any of the following third gen Game Boy Advance games:

  • Ruby or Sapphire
  • Emerald
  • FireRed or LeafGreen

To complete t?his step, you’ll need to own one of the following fourth gen games on Nintendo DS:

  • Diamond or Pearl
  • Platinum
  • HeartGold or SoulSilver

With two of the aforementioned games at your disposal, you’re ready to transfer Pokémon. This step is actually rather easy, and all you need to do is plug both games into the DS in their respective slots. Then, boot up your chosen fourth-gen game, and you’ll have the option to “Migrate from (insert third-gen game name here).”?/p>

You’ll be here a while, as you can only transfer six Pokémon at once, but you’ll eventually end up with third-gen Pokémon in your fourth-gen game. To find them, head to the Pal Park, which can be found on Route 221 in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum, or in Fuchsia City in HeartGold or SoulSilver.

Step two: Fourth gen to fifth gen

Fourth gen Pokémon game
Image via Nintendo

You’ll need to do this if you’re wanting to get any Pokémon from your ??fourth-gen game into your fifth-gen game, including any that you tra??nsferred from a third-gen game in the previous step.

In order to complete this step, you’ll need two Nintendo DS or DSi consoles and a copy of one of the followin?g games:

  • Pokémon Black or White
  • Pokémon Black 2 or White 2

Plug your chosen game into one of the DS consoles, and then head to the? Poké Transfer Lab on Route 15. Talking to the scientist inside will prompt you to connect another DS through Wireless Communications.

On the second DS, choose “DS Download Play?from the menu, and then you’ll be free to transfer Pokémon. There’s a mini-game involved, and you’ll need to capture the Poké??mon you want to transfer, with any that are caught going to your PC Box.

Step three: Fifth gen into sixth gen using Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter

Fifth gen Pokémon game
Image via Nintendo

This is where the first two apps come into play, and things start to get convoluted. You’ll need both Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter installed on your 3DS to proceed.

First, insert the fifth generation game that you’re hoping to transfer Pokémon from into the cartridge slot, then open it up and place any Pokémon you want to transfer into “Box 1? Poké Transporter will only transfer ??Pokémon in this box, so if you’ve got a large collection, you’re going to be here a while.

It’s also worth noting that items held by transferred Pokémon will be automatically sent to your bag, but if it’s full, the item will vanish. To avoid losing precious items, make sur??e that you have enough space in your bag for possible new additions.

Once you’ve got everything prepared, open up the Poké Transporter and select the game you want to transfer from. Confirm your choice, and Poké Transporter will take all of the Pokémon from Box 1 and move them to Pokémon Bank.

Step four: Sixth or seventh gen Pokémon directly to Pokémon Bank

Sixth gen Pokémon game
Image via Nintendo

Once your chosen Pokémon is successfully transferred into your sixth-gen game, things start to get a little easier. Both sixth and seventh-generation games allow you to transfer Pokémon directly into the Pokémon Bank

This includes:

  • Pokémon X or Y
  • Pokémon Omega or Ruby
  • Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
  • Pokémon Sun or Moon
  • Pokémon Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon

To transfer Pokémon from any of these games, all you need to do is insert the cartridge and then open up the Pokémon Bank app. Once that’s open, you can take your time going through your boxes and transferring any P??okémon you want.

Step five: Transferring Pokémon from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home

Pokémon Home
Image via Nintendo

To transfer Pokémon between Pokémon Bank and Pokémon Home, you’ll first need to have a paid su??bscription to Pokémo??n Home, which costs the following:

  • Monthly: $2.99 USD
  • Quarterly: $4.99 USD
  • Annually: $15.99 USD

As long as you have that, you have two choices:

If you used the same Nintendo Account on both devices, you don’t even need to still own your Nintendo 3DS. Download Pokémon Home, login using your Nintendo Account details, and then press the 3DS icon, then select “No Nintendo 3DS? The app will search for your corresponding Pokémon Bank account and then instantly transfer all of the Pokémon held there into Pokémon Home

If you do have your 3DS but used different Nintendo Accounts for each device, things are a little slower but it can still be done. First, make sure that both devices are fully updated, then open the Pokémon Bank app on the 3DS. Find the option to “Move Pokémon to Pokémon Home?and open up Pokémon Home on the Switch.

Select the 3DS icon and then “Begin Move,?giving you a code that you’ll need to enter on the 3DS before allowing you to transfer any or all Pokémon into Pokémon Home

Transferring Pokémon using Pokémon Home

Pokémon Home logo
Image via Nintendo

Now we’re all up to date, and Nintendo has given us the gift of simplicity. Any game that was released for the Nintendo Switch allows you to transfer Pokémon directly to Pokémon Home

As long as you have Pokémon Home ins??talled on the sam?e Switch that you use to play the following games, you’ll be able to transfer Pokémon between them:

  • Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee! or Pikachu!
  • Pokémon Sword or Shield
  • Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl
  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus
  • Pokémon Scarlet or Violet

Simply open up the Pokémon Home app on your Switch, select “Pokémon,?and choose the game you want to transfer from. You’ll find all the Pokémon from that game listed and ready to transfer.
The worst that can happen here is that you may need to update a game before Pokémon Home allows you to transfer Pokémon, but once that’s do?n?e, it’s as easy as moving Pokémon between boxes.

Portable power!

The most popular current-generatio??n console is a handheld. Computer companies with limited experience in the console market are jumping in with handhelds of their own. There's no denying it: portable gaming is in the midst of a renaissance. But as companies continue to release handheld consoles, and as consumers continue to buy them, I'm struck by an interesting question: what was the last mainstream handheld game?

I'm not talking about a game that you can play on a handheld. At this point, you can play basically any game ever made on a handheld. I'm talking about a game built for handhelds, one that benefits from a smaller form factor, lower processing power, and increased portability. Handheld consoles are about as big as they've ever been... so where are?? all the handheld games?

Very important pockets

Think back with me on simpler times. Remember when companies like Nintendo and Sony would have two main consoles on t??he market at once? A chunky home device and its lean, mean, pocket-friendly little sister? And, crucially, remember when they had different libraries? There was a kind of separation of powers in those days, and it led to some really compelling design decisions.

[caption id="attachment_359259" align="alignnone" width="640"] Image via?? Sony Interactive Entertainment[/capt?ion]

The limited power of the handheld has also always been of some import. PataponLoco Roco, and Echoshift are all wildly beloved PSP and Vita franchises, and it's hard to imagine any of them connecting on the PS3. While home consoles were in the midst of a graphical arms race, pushing more and more cinematic stories, Sony was quietly publishing some deeply innovative and interesting titles on their dedicated handhelds. At home, you get Halo and The Last of Us. On the go, you g??et a rhythm tactics s?ide-scroller.

Most of these games are designed based on a simple philosophy: a great handheld game is built on the idea that it will be played in your hand. It's a game in which nothing is lost on the small screen, and, indeed, one in which something is gained. Patapon plays great on my PlayStation 5, but its miniature heroes, are built for a smaller world. The characters bear simple designs that are readable on a smaller screen. They address the player directly, assuming a level of intimacy tha?t the PSP facilitates nicely. Most importantly, t?he tight, brief levels are the kind of thing that belong in a back pocket, not on a TV stand.

A delicious bite

When I talk about games that are truly built for handheld play, it's hard to avoid Pokémon: I have long believed that the original Pokémon games would have faded into the realm of the cult classic on home consoles. These games are full of smart design calls that make them sing on the go. Of course, Pokémon has some pretty foundationally pocket-s??ized ideas. A game about going on an adventure and finding new things outside was undoubtedly able to more fully resonate w??ith young children who could actually take it with them on their own mini-journeys.

Portability in Pokémon is baked into its ethos, but it also plays a meaningful role in its design. Battles are tactical, but they're usually brief affairs. Every moment offers up the chance to see a cool new character, ?or to win a really tough fight. Satisfaction and engagement awaits around every corner... which also means every play session, no matter how bite-sized, is satisfying and engaging.

[caption id="attachment_359268" align="alignnone" width="640"] Image via Square Enix[/caption]

"Brief but satisfying" is the aim in a good handheld game. That's also why a lot of homebound games earned a revival in the back seat of Mom's car. Series like Final Fantasy and Persona earned second lives through handheld ports - where sprawling RPGs with intense stories were once considered TV-oriented affairs, ports like Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions and Persona 4 Golden posited that a sixty hour game with three minute fights might actually be more digestible on the go. These games were already satisfying in bursts, so they made for a natural fit on the PSP and PS Vita. Likewise, Tetris' earliest releases were on Soviet home computers, but its most iconic incarnation was on the ori??ginal Game Boy. As it turns out, people like score-chasing dopamine hits in their pockets.

A necessary lifeline

Handheld design philosophy also left the door open to iterate on home concepts. When home gaming systems ent??ered the 3D era, a lot of franchises made the jump with them. Handheld consoles needed games, too, but sprawling adventures didn't always play as well on the go. That meant older design philosophy met with handheld design philosophy to keep certain corners of the gaming world alive.

I often think of Metroid Fusion. This was a 2D Metroid game released on the Game Boy Advance exactly one day before Metroid Prime, which would become the "main" Metroid series for the following twenty years. My personal opinions on Fusion aside, it is a great portable title. It's fairly linear by necessity, because it is designed to be played in shorter bursts by more casual players. More notably, though, it's an actual 2D Metroid game - I can't help but feel that if the GBA wasn't around, 2D Metroid might have disappeared entirely. As a matter of fact, when a new 2D Metroid game finally arrived on the ?Nintendo Switch in 2021??, it was a retooled version of a DS game.

[caption id="attachment_359263" align="alignnone" width="640"] Image via Nintendo[/caption]

Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda followed simila?r trajectories: as the home console games got more expansive, the portable games tightened the bolts on classic concepts, offering up some of the best games in ?their respective franchises.

What now?

In 2023, the distinction between "handheld" and "home console" is becoming increasingly muddy. The Nintendo Switch, of course, exists to destroy that distinction entirely, serving as both Nintendo's current generation handheld and its home console. Games made for the Switch need to be both home console titles and handheld titles (and the handheld bit usually cedes itself to the big-screen bit). The Steam Deck, similarly, is a handheld that plays PC games. At least for now, basically nothing is built for the Steam Deck. It also bears mentioning that, while they do fit in your hand, neither of these consoles are especially portable, so the "on-the-go" philosophy that defines games like Pokémon isn't something developers need to consider.

I think the impact of this has been almost instantaneously obvious. It seems unlikely that we'll ever get, say, a new 2D Zelda game on the Switch. When an old 2D Zelda game was brought over, it was prettied up and converted to 3D to make it look and feel less like a handheld game. Sony has seemingly given up on its handheld platforms entirely. The company o?ffers PS4 and PS5 remote play on mobile devices, as well as a meager offering of remastered PSP titles for its home consoles, but looking at a list of Sony-published games from the last several years, it's apparent that the portable design philosophy has vanished.

[caption id="attachment_359260" align="alignnone" width="640"] Image via Nintendo[/caption]

There have been proper handheld games developed and released more recently - Panic's Playdate, for example, is a comically underpowered monochrome handheld with a dedicated and compelling library. It's become something of a safe haven for independent developers looking for a quirky platform where smaller games can flourish. Developers want to make new games like Patapon, and the Playdate offers them that space. While there are plenty of Playdate games that would be comfortable enough on home consoles, the most beloved titles on the platform tend to be games like Bennett Foddy's Zipper, a tactical RPG full ??of brief, satisfying encounters.

In terms of mainstream consoles, though? We're pretty much out of luck. E??very game made for Nintendo's flagship handheld must necessarily be made for its flagship home system, and nobody else is even trying to offer a smaller counterpart to their massive offerings. There's a portable hole in the market, and I truly hope someone comes along to fill it.

It'll make you smile, easy

A Zelda: Majora's Mask Africa cover isn't something I ?ever thought I'd get to write about, but here I am: this is why I love my job.

The YouTube channel Bigfatfrown's namesake is going to have the opposite effect on you once you watch their latest video. It's a Toto's Africa cover, but played by way of the in-game instruments in Majora's Mask. That includes the Pipes of Aw??akening, the Drums of Sleep, the Guitar of Waves, ?and the Ocarina of Time.

Once the pipes came in, I lost it! As one commenter put it: this is what YouTube was made for. Amazingly, six years ago they did a short Take on Me cover with just the Deku Pipes back when Majora's Mask 3D was fresh. It's incredible that this feature was even in the game, way before players wer??e sharing their discoveries and works like this.

As an aside, it's lovely to see all of the appreciation for Majora's Mask decades after the fact. People were so high on Ocarina of Time that they weren't ready for the weirdness of Majora's Mask, but by the time the 3DS version came out, some ??of those detractors cooled on t??hat, and were ready to give it a fair shake.

As a heads-up, Atlus just put up a ton of 3DS games for sale through January 5. Some of the highlights include Persona Q 1+2Shin Megami Tensei IV, Tensei Apocalypseand multiple entries in the Etrian Odyssey and Devil Survivor series.

Look, I could go on forever about Atlus' undying commitment to the 3DS and Vita platforms: and I will! The publisher was supporting both portables when basically no one else was, to the point where they were pumping out 3DS and Vita games respectively until 2018 and 2019??. While the 3DS had way longer legs, the Vita was pretty much dead a few years after launch ??because Sony themselves killed it, and I frequently referred to Atlus as a "first-party Vita publisher."

In ot??her words, don't sleep on this run of Atlus 3DS games for sale.

Here's the full list of Atlus 3DS games for sale:

  • Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight ($7.99)

  • Etrian Odyssey Nexus  ($9.99)

Annoying for importers

Roughly five months ago, Nintendo warned us that the eShop would stop taking direct 3DS and Wii U credit card payments in Japan. Now they've stepped in this week to remind us that it is still going to happen as of January 18. Here is the full context, straight from Nintendo's support site:

"The use of credit cards and transportation electronic money at the Nintendo 3DS series and the Nintendo eShop in Wii U will be terminated at 9:00 am on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. After the end, you wi??ll not be able to add balances using credit cards and transportation electronic money from the Nintendo 3DS series and Wii U."

That also includes Suica cards, if you're a Japanese resident. Instead, Nintendo is asking folks to use prepaid cards, which can be more of a hassle for people with 3DS and Wii U hardware internationally. The saving grace is that you can buy things on the website with credit cards, s?o long as you link all your info (like your Nintendo Network ID, or NNID). You ??can also add to your balance on the site.

The company also reiterates that this does not impact the Switch, just?? 3DS and Wii U credit cards on the eShop.

At the very least, for now, you can sign into either eShop for free My Nintendo Pla?tinum Points! The whole scheme is extremely low key and I'd even put mo??ney on someone forgetting that's even an option.

Do it

Five years ago, Nintendo announced that the Switch would not be getting Miiverse and StreetPass. It was kind of devastating.

While the Switch has gone on to be a monumental success by any metric, it also doesn't have Miiverse ??or StreetPass. Or folders. Or a chunk of things that wouldn't take away from the integrity of the simplicity of the UI, but would still be greatly appreciated under the hood (I digress). But one day, somehow, even if it's the fabled "Switch 2" or by way of a firmw??are update, I'd love to see StreetPass on Switch.

So when it comes to StreetPass, I? can't stop thinking about this report from a few months ago. Someone spent an entire day in New York City and didn't come up with one StreetPass. They even went into the Nintendo store! It just go??es to show you how heavily ?Nintendo has dropped the 3DS like a sack of potatoes, and how much old guard StreetPass folk have given up. Give them a renewed sense of hope on the Switch.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_aU4C3QAoI

Right now ?we're all in a state of disarray when it comes to gatherings. But in the future, we will meet up again. For those of you who didn't experience StreetPass in its prime, you missed out.

StreetPass, very simply, enabled a set of minigames on your 3DS, bolstered by random meetups and connections. It was sort of an extra bonus to pretty much any leisurely walk in a crowded area, or a convention. You'd boot up your 3DS, get Play Coins for your efforts, and link up with random people that could help you out with minigames. This is before Pokemon Go and AR game??s really took off. It was ?a safe, fun way to stay semi-connected to people, which was a boon for anyone with anxiety.

Meeting up with friends during cons and sharing our spoils was a regular pastime: seeing who had the most hits and who could finish their StreetPass Mii Plaza tasks first. Some people just liked finishing puzzles (you'd get a piece by connecting through StreetPass), of which there were many via constant updates. Others loved the "Find Mii" adventure minigame, which predated Miitopia. A??nd if you sprang for paid DLC, there was an entire suite of things to do.

It's the little things in life that add up, and StreetPass was something I looked forward to during basically every trip I took from the early 2010s through around the end of that same decade, when the 3DS started dying out. I'd lo?ve to see Ninte?ndo come up with something so joyous again.

Not only does this story subject claim that they spent the whole day in NYC, but itsmefizzy notes that they "hit up a few games stores and the Nintendo Store" (as noted in the title) and came up with nothing. And had StreetPass on in the airport with a layover just in case. I just have to say: I love the Yokai Watch 3DS lid.

This whole situation kind of makes me want to bring StreetPass back. On my next trip I'm tempted to bring my 3DS and see if I get even one StreetPass hit, hoping to connect to someone else who feels the same as me or itsmefizzy. It's a lo??ng shot given how out of favor the 3DS is these days, but I still play it regularly, and there's a heap of eShop games that will likely never come? to Switch for a variety of reasons: either the studio is closed or the games simply aren't worth the effort.

Long live the 3DS. You know I?'m not going to miss any opportunity to celebrate ??it!

RIP, pour one out, and whatever else you can do for these kingly devices

I rarely get to use the 3DS and Wii U tags these days, but by God, I'm going to use them today. These systems have provided ages of entertainment throughout the years, and now th??eir respective eShop marketplaces are going the way of the dodo just like the Wii did.

Announced via Nintendo's Japanese support site, the 3DS and Wii U will stop taking credit card and electric money payments for the eShop (Suica works in Japan!). Here's the rub: "After the end [date], you will not be able to add ??balances using credit cards and transportation electronic money from the Nintendo 3DS series and Wii U." That end date is January 18, 2022 at 9AM JST.

Note that Nintendo clarifies that you can use existing balances after that period, you just can't add them. You can also get around t??his semi-shutdown by working through the Nintendo site instead of those devices directly, or increase your balance via your Switch. The filter functionality for the 3DS' web browser is also going to be forced "on" if you haven't turned it off once before on that same date (may as well do that now just in case it matters). Plus, Karaoke Joysound for Wii U will be losing some monetary functionality after October 26, 2021.

So this isn't a complete shutdown yet. Of course the next step is shuttering this entire operation eventually, Nintendo is just taking the wall apart brick by brick. It's a smart method, as it comes gradually, typically with advance notice, and people know that it's coming and can make peace with it. Kind of like the time Mario was killed off. At least you knew it was going to happen, so you could hoard?? physical copies if you wanted!

These systems die a little bit every day

I'm one of the few weirdos who used devices like a 3DS or Wii U to play media sometimes. I mean, not so much anymore, but when the Wii U was in its heyday for example (I know what you're thinking, "the Wii U never ha??d a heyday," take that back!), and it was th?ere, and hooked up, it didn't hurt. Plus, think of all the kids who only have a 3DS and one family TV.

Well, those folks are going to be a bit sad as of this week, as Ni??ntendo has fully discontinued Netflix on both of th??ose devices. As a reminder, Nintendo fully removed Netflix from the 3DS and Wii ??U eShops back on December 31, 2020 anyway, but now the apps will simply cease to function. There's a lot of reasons for why someone may not want to continue to support an app, but in any case, they're sunk now.

Again, I know someone is going to be like "WHO USED THIS?!" The one person who did on?? each device will shed ?a tear reading that. I hope you're happy.

I recently downloaded every Wii U game I want for safekeeping

It's too early to feel nostalgic about the Wii U – or is it??? (You're right. It probably is.)

Nintendo has confirmed that Netflix will no longer be usable on Wii U or 3DS as of June 30, 2021. The app was already delisted from the eShop on December 31, 2020, but soon it'll be outright discontinued. If you're one of the few who still uses Netflix on either platform, come June 30, ??you won't be able to.

These things happen. Legacy systems fade away. Digital game stores won't last forever, and that goes double for streaming services. But at the same time, wow, the Switch doesn't have its own Netflix app.

As superior a system as the Nintendo Switch is, I have a soft spot for the Wii U. It's clunky?? to load a??nything, and the GamePad range limitations aren't ideal, but I still enjoy it for Virtual Console purposes.

Over the holiday break, I randomly got the urge to comb through my digital Wii U library. I cleared out all of the games I don't expect to return to (mostly titles that have since been ported to Switch like Pikmin 3) and downloaded everything I wanted on my console so it's good to go if and when games are ever pulled from the store. The one-by-one process was tedious – and it felt so bizarre to spend money on a few more Game Boy Advance titles in 2020 including Final Fantasy Tactics Advance – but it's done. My Wii U library is now "locked in place," and there's something rea??ssuring about that know??ledge.

Also, I finally took the time to get homebrew running on my Wii U and dang was that worthwhile.

Also, Iris.Fall

First things first: this is not a revival of Bloody Roar. Nor is it a werewolf action game of any kind!

Instead, it's based on the tabletop game by White Wolf Publ??ishing, which was originally released in the '90s and is still alive and kicking with the 5th Edition release this year. It's also since branched off into games, including the "Heart of the Forest" release on PC in late 2020.

Today, it comes to Switch, along with Iris.Fall, and a bunch of stuff you can check out below.

BABYBABYBABYBABYBABYBABYBABYBABY...

If there's one aspect of the Persona series that truly epitomizes the franchise's slick and stylish aesthetic, it's the smooooth sounds. Every Persona title has been blessed with a magnetic and electrify??ing score, usually consisting of pulse-pounding beats, smooth jazz tones, and comple??tely and utterly baffling lyrics.

From today, Persona fans can soundtrack their own lives with the same tunes that scored the adventures of The Phantom Thieves, The Investigation Team, and the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad. As noted by AniPlaylist, music streaming service Spotify has just added a slew of OSTs from th??e globally-popul??ar RPG franchise.

Spotify now hosts a playlist of 14 Persona albums, compiling a whopping 746 tracks taken from 1999's Persona 2: Innocent Sin, right through to 2016's Persona 5. Also accounted for are fighting game Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Nintendo 3DS spin-offs Persona Q: Shadow of Labyrinth and Persona Q 2: New Cinema Labyrinth, as well as a live recording of the "Night of the?? Phantom" concert – which took place at Japan's Budokan Hall back in 2015.

Currently, the OSTs for Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers have not been made available for purchase, and as such are not included here. Still, there's more than enough awes??ome music to keep you going as you steal hearts, batt??le demons, and solve murders in the real world. Just don't go diving into any TV sets.

The available soundtracks are as follows:

  • Persona 2 Sound Collection Vol. 6
  • Persona 3 FES Original Soundtrack

  • Persona 4: Dancing All Night Original Soundtrack
  • Persona 4: Dancing All Night Soundtrack Advanced CD

2021, you better bring it

It's going to?? be a weird year with 2020 in ou?r rear view mirror, I'll tell you that much.

But for now: Switch games! There isn't a whole lot here today, as Nintendo isn't featuring anything in particular outside of the Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled trial that's running from now until January 5.

There's a few notable releases in here like Deemo Reborn, as well as Monster Prom: XXL. There's also an interesting release called The Innsmouth Case, which is based on the popular Shadow over Innsmouth novella from author H.P. Lovecraft. This one actually came out earlier this year, and lines up nicely with another spooky fish-person-flavored release: Fantasy Flight Games' Arkham Horror: The Card Game's current Innsmouth cycle.

There's a few options this week on Switch! But mainly Nintendo is banking on your buying Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity if you haven't already. The Switch has a powerful en??ough library as it i?s to be able to coast for a few months.

  • #Xmas, Super Puzzles Dream
  • Arcade Archives GRADIUS III
  • Cave Digger
  • Comic Coloring Book
  • DEEMO -Reborn-
  • FUZE Player
  • Harold’s Walk
  • Hitori Logic

  • Monster Prom: XXL
  • Pixel Game Maker Series DUNGEON OF NAZARICK

Also, Double Dragon Neon

I feel like saying that a "low key week" for a late-in-the-year? Nintendo Download issue is commonplace: but this time, it's extremely low key.

It's Christmas Eve! Happy holidays! A lot of folks are busy thinking about presents tomorrow or loved ones (presents, right?). There's no time for the eShop right now. But there's still a few things that are going to be coming to? the Switch that you might spend your shiny new gift card?? on.

Wingspan, a "relaxing strategy card game" is out today, as are a ton of Bit.Trip games. Remember those? Well Beat, Core, Fate, Flux, Runner, and Void are all out on Christmas day. That's a ton of Bits! Double Dragon Neon coming to the Switch is also kind of a big deal?, as more and more beat 'em?? ups slowly flock to the platform.

It's a lot to sift through and a dece??nt showing. Enjo??y!

There's a? few third-party releases left in the eShop!

Super Meat Boy Forever just got a release date recently, and thankfully, the Switch will join the PC with a December 23 launch. Beyond that, it's a very low key week for the Nintendo eShop, with mostly indies, and a Switch port of Grindstone, which earned the respect of many App??le Arcade users in late 2019??.

Also buried in this sea of mid-December releases is Turrican Flashback, which had a big re-announcement party recently. Also available on PS4, this collection reassembles Turrican, Turrican II, Mega Turrican, and Super Turrican under one roof. Given that so many? people have forgotten about this series, it warms my heart to se?e it make headlines again.

Also, PixelJunk Eden 2

I've said it many times, but Nintendo's push holiday push for the Switch seemed to end with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. But that doesn't mean third parties are slo?uching.

Doom Eternal is probably the biggest release for the Switch, and it's out now. But it doesn't completely upstage the fact that Q-Games is still alive and kicking, making PixelJunk games like it was 2007 again. PixelJunk Eden 2 is out on Switch as well, and if you want more puzzles in your life, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is hitting Switch too.

There's a lot of stuff to choose from! Pretty mu??ch everyone should be happy at this point with how many publishers are porting and releasing things on the eShop.

Also, Picross S5

Happy thanksgiving! It's time for some games. Or not, ma?ybe you already spent all your cash on the Series X or PS5. Or, maybe you just play on Nintendo Switch. Either way, there's stuff. There??'s always stuff! A surprising amount of stuff out on Thanksgiving weekend.

The big release is Empire of Sin from Romero Games, which was announced, of all places, on 2019's E3 Ninte??ndo Direct. It's out on December 1, so you have a few days to check out reviews and make sure it's all up to snuff. It feels like a lot of modern strategy games need that "grace period" given how easi??ly they could be bugged out.

As for the rest, it's a bunch of ports and re-releases for the most part. Nintendo seems to be done with their holiday 2020 push, with Age of Calamity as their last major title of the year. Of course, there could also be some surprise DLC drops left in them: including a new Smash Bros. reveal.

The time has come! It's another first-party Nintendo game release! Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is out on November 20, serving as a prequel for the beloved modern classic Breath of the Wild.

Now that it's finally being unleashed upon the world after the time-traveling antics of the demo confused everyone thoroughly, I'm looking forward to seeing what the general public thinks. It's going t??o be docked for the fra?merate issues and the narrative is likely going to be polarizing, but I'm jazzed to finally be able to talk about it. But it's not the only big release this week.

Get that manufacturing pipeline back up and running

Well, Nintendo did it: they got our hopes up with a 3DS update, only for it to b??e the dreaded "s??tability" line. Drat!

To be clear, the full rundown of the latest November 16 update is as follows: "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience." Minor adjustments eh? So you're saying there'?s a chance it could come b?ack?

This is the first major update for the 3DS since December 2, 2019: making it nearly a full year of non-updates. Back in September, Nintendo officially discontinued the 3DS ?line, making it official.

But I've been giving the system eulogies for...oh around three and a half years now, ever since the Switch was released. It was becoming increasingly clear that the Switch was the new ho??t ticket for Nintendo to climb out of the slump of the Wii U (a hole the 3?DS helped them dig out of), with multiple 3DS games going to Switch and all first-party 3DS development ceasing.

I don't think we'll ever get a pure portable system from Nintendo again (the Switch Lite kinda counts, kinda doesn't!), at least in the near future. Whatever the next iteration of hardware will be, it'll likely resemble something like a Switch Pro as a stopgap, followed by a Super Switch. While this week's 3DS system update is meaningless, you still need it to log into the eShop and get yo?ur My Nintendo points??. It also gives me an excuse to write about the 3DS aga?in! One of the best systems of the last decade.

3DS [Nintendo]

Ver. 11.14.0-46U (November 16th, 2020)

  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

Also, Just Dance 2021

This week the shining star of the Switch eShop is easily Kingdom Hearts; Melody of Memory, the new rhythm game in a recent line of rhythm romps from Square Enix. Amazingly, the Switch edition is actually getting an extra feature: You can play l??ocal multiplayer with multiple pieces of hardware. That doesn't happen too often.

Just Dance 2021 is also back, and thankfully we didn't have to see a weird stage demonstration from Ubisoft at E3 this year to welcome it. It's almost like that portion of the show is a summoning circle so that whatever Faus?tian bargain was struck for the song licensing deals can be completed.

Outside of that, it's business as usual for the Switch eShop. There's some ports, a few re-releases, you know: stuff before the storm that is a first-party Nintendo release. Age of Calamity is just over a week away.

Also, Fuser

We're so close t?o the next generation: but Nintendo doesn't care!

For them, "next-gen" arrived three years ago, but truthfully, Nintendo kind of skates around the idea of "generations" anyway. They do what they do, they (generally) sell a ton of consoles and first-party software, then they do their ow??n thing yet again. The Switch has been executing that strategy to aplomb with strong hardware and software sales.

Speaking of software, this week sees the release of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin and Fuser on November 10. The third-party support for the Switch continues, while Nintendo itself is gearing up for a major release soon enough with Age of Calamity on November 20. Soon!

120 points a month could help you get a physical item

Now th?at physical rewards are returning to My Nintendo, there's an actual reason to use the service again regul??arly.

The thing is, if you've been neglecting it for a while, you might be logging into zero Platinum Points, which doesn't really help you pick up 600+-cost rewards. We've shown you ??a few easy ways to earn points ??over the past few years, but there's one fairly innocuous mission that a lot of people are probably? ignoring right now: the legacy system mission.

While we have no idea when Nintendo will actually realize that this mission exists and turn it off, for now, it's ready to claim every week. All you need to do is log into the Nintendo eShop on a Wii U or 3DS with the same My Nintendo-linked account, and you'll earn 30 Platinum Points per week

That's literally all you need to do. Just sign in for a few seconds and you can earn 120 easy Platinum Points per month in addition to whatever else you're bringing in. My Wii U is still ho??oked up and I keep my 3DS fully charged on a dock near my bed (with a docked Vita!): so this is super easy for me to remember.

It's not every day I get to write about the Wii U and the 3DS. If there? isn't a reason to, I'll invent one!

    Also, Part time UFO

Pikmin is back! In Switch form!

Alas, Pikmin 3 is the latest game to get an update on the Switch, as Nintendo tries to move every single game possible from the Wii U to their newer, successful system. Not "more successful," mind. Just successful. Poor Wii U! I still have mine hooked up and play it. T?here are some things it just did better than the Switch, but I know I'm alone on my U-shaped island here.

Outside of Pikmin 3 Deluxe, there's a few other big releases this week on Switch. Part Time UFO makes the full-time move out of the mobile arena, with Control Ultimate Edition hitting the Switch in the form of a cloud edition. No More Heroes 1+2 are also both out now, as well as Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition. WayForward's Bakugan game is coming on November 3.

It's a huge week! Good luck pi??cking just one thing to snag.

    Also, The Red Lantern

As we enter winter 2020 for real soon enough, the marquee game on the Switch this week is the very model of a winter wonderland: The Red Lantern. Of course while it is wondrous it's also treacherous, as you'll need to survive the cold with your trusty dog sled team. You can read all about it in our review here.

The long-awaited Gonner2 is also hitting Switch, as well as the cute looking Carto and Supraland. Nintendo also put up a Kirby Fighters 2 demo if you want to try out the new sequel: which itself is an expanded version of the Kirby Fighters minigame from Triple Deluxe. Oh, how spinoffs have a? life of their own sometimes.

Of course, the other main course is DLC-related: The Crown Tundra expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield. It's coming sometime today and will cap off the season pass for this generation of Pokemon: it remains to be see??n? if there's more DLC on the way eventually.

    Also, Jackbox Party Pack 7

It's a bit of an unconventi??onal week for Nintend??o's eShop, as the top game is actually a pseudo-app of sorts!

The culprit is none other than Mario Kart Live: the hybrid augmented reality real-life kart toy that allows players to run a machine with a camera strapped to it through their house, which doubles as the track. The action plays out on an actual Switch screen, which fills in AI opponents, hazards and other goodies. It's $99 for the starter kit, which comes with Mario (as in, Mario driving the kart) and the physical gates to create the track?.

There's a few other options if that's too rich for your blood. Roki is out on Switch this week, as well as Jackbox Party Pack 7. A new Jackbox game is basically an even in our household! It's especially useful now that there are c??oncessions for play??ing online with each other via streaming.

    Also, Ikenfell

Everyone is packing in the Switch eShop releases for the holi?days! It's a huge day today wit??h over 40 games hitting the marketplace: good luck sorting through them all.

The marquee releases this time around are I Am Dead, The Survivalists, FIFA 21 Legacy Edition and Ikenfell. The Switch is also welcoming the pair of Prinny games on the system on October 13, which were announced way earlier in the year. On that same day, Minecraft is coming to Smash Ultimate.

So while Nintendo doesn't have a whole lot planned (yet) in terms of software, the Switch platform itself is fairly healthy in terms of 2020 ??offerings. As usua?l, there's a mix of both old and new in the below list, which is rolling out from today through October 14.

It was also on PC, 3DS, PS4, Vita and Xbox One

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is pretty good! So is the sequel. But as it turns out, Inti Creates says tha??t the first game? sold pretty well too.

Speaking to Nintendo Everything, Inti Creates has confirmed that the game has sold "over 600,000 copies." Studio CEO Takuya Aizu explains that t?he boost is "in part powered by the release of [the sequel]." Aizu also states that "more than half of those sales" are from the Switch edition. Quite the feat given that it was also released on every other major platform.

Note that Curse of the Moon came out in mid-2018, so it has some long legs if it's just now reaching that milestone. While it was available on PC, 3DS, PS4, Vita and Xbox One in addition to the?? Switch, the sequel shored up some of those platforms, only appearing on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

It makes perfect sense that if there is more of a global saturation of Switch users in 2020, folks who picked up the second game on the platform w??ould mosey on over to the original.

    Also, Rogue Company

A first-party Nintendo game is out today! As long as you're okay with battle royales. And mi?cro-eShop games that have limited windows. And...have Switch Online. Wait, come back!

Yep, Super Mario Bros. 35 is definitely the headliner today, and time will tell if it becomes the next Tetris 99. You better believe that if it does catch on, Nintendo will walk back that "limited time release" nonsense and give it some paid DLC, just like Tetris 99 did.

As far as other big releases go, Rogue Company is out today in full, having enjoyed a paid early access period. Ys Origin is also out on Switch, which is goi??ng to be a big deal t??o some people.

    Also, Rivals of Aether

Well, Nintendo did it agai?n: they unleashed a "surprise,?? it's out!" game.

You can now buy Kirby Fighters 2 on Switch (RIP 3DS), alongside of Going Under and Embracelet. Nintendo also reminds us that Rocket League is now free-to-play. Two first-party games in two weeks! It??'s like Christmas in September.

I also have to take this opportunity to remind people that the 3DS is officially dead. While there are sparing releases for it by very small studio?s (sometimes once a month), it seems like that infrequen??t trend will become even more infrequent. Long live the 3DS.
