If you’re ready to jump back onto the live-service train after enjoying Bungie’s classic Marathon 2: Durandal on Steam, now’s the time to do just that, as the studio dropped neat new trailer for Destiny 2‘s Echoes – Act 2 seasonal drop. Its party trick? The appearance of the ominous Conductor.
True enough, we had already seen the Conductor via CGI trailers and cutscenes, but the new Echoes – Act 2 trailer actually has them show up in the context of an in-game sequence, raising a pair of Vex Precursors to presumably do their bidding. The identity of the Conductor is still kept a secret, of course, though their frame does seemingly suggest that they’re feminine, at the very least, which in turn highlights the most prominent theories on their identity.
Destiny 2’s Conductor makes an in-game appearance in the new Echoes – Act 2 trailer
The peaceful introduction to Echoes – Act 1 is now way in the past, with the more traditionally bombastic Destiny 2 action set-pieces now back in center stage. Aside from the new story and quest continuations we’re getting with Act 2 of the Echoes season, there’s a pair of new guns as well, namely the transforming Aberrant Action rocket sidearm and the Corrasion pulse rifle. Solar and Arc armaments, respectively. If they’re even remotely as useful as the Lost Signal area-denial grenade launcher, I’ll be thrilled.
The most important of the new activities include the three new Battleground missions, which are certainly going to be fun in their own right, but might pull the Vanguard Opℱs playlist even further into drudgery as time goes on. They’re interesting, though, because they will essentially act as narrative content, where one is supposed to take place after another as Guardians push deeper into the core of Nessus. New Artifact Mods are coming in, too, as well as a bevy of item buffs. Of course, we can’t forget the Solstice event will drop sometime in Act 2 as well.
One last thing to note here is that, even though Bungie is doing away with time-gates from the second season of the year onwards (Revenant, specifically), they are still going to be in place for the duration of the Echoes’ season’s Acts 2 and 3. It would’ve been stellar had Bungie decided to get rid of tiꦍme-gates earlier st🥀ill, but it is what it is, and so we’re stuck with the transitional content format for the next couple of months. Not a huge deal for those who are actively keeping track of Destiny, of course, but still worth keeping in mind.
