Out in September
This is it, we have finally reached “FIFA 20” territory. Electronic Arts has announced another entry in the wildly popular worldwide FIFA franchise, and t𒁃his one is taking it to the streets.
The big draw this year is VOLTA Football, which focuses on the “small-side” of the game, also known as street ball. Lower key locales like Amsterdam underpasses and Tokyo rooftops are confirmed, which customizable avatars, and concessions for 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 matches. You’ll also be able to partake in a VOLTA story campaign. VOLTA is “return” in Portuguese, which represents the whole old school motif EA is going for this year. The last game to focus on street ball this much was 2012’s FIFA Street, also by EA: so it’s been quite a while.
One of the big gameplay changes for FIFA 20 is more panache for “front of goal” shooting, so finishing an actual drive is allegedly going to be more satisfying and nuanced. Strafe-dribbling is also getting overhauled with more pinpoint dribble control.
FIFA 20 is launching on September 24 on PC (Origin), PS4, and Xbox One. Switch is getting a “Legacy Edition” and it’ll come to early access for EA Access players on PC (and now, PS4) on September 19.
