As for what to expect, well, it’ll be a whole host of video game news. Gamescom Opening Night Live is usually the last big show of the summer of gaming news, sitting right near the end of August and leading right into the Gamescom event.
What this means is a lot of reveals, trailers, and spotlights on upcoming games. For example, last year is where we saw Dead Island 2 get a release date (that would eventually get delayed), a leaked Sonic Frontiers date got confirmed༺, and Hideo Kojima announced his podca💃st.
After the streams of summer have gone
The summer is going to look quite different this year, though. E3 has officially bowed out of the conversation, with the ESA and PAX organizer ReedPop calling off their plans for in-person and digital. Though we’ve been without a proper in-person E3 for a few years now, this news feels a bit like a nail in the coffin.
Meanwhile, Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is still cruising along. The SGF show will air live on June 8, with a live audience. Xbox and Ubisoft are also planning the♏ir own shows for the summer, too. Even without E3 in tꦏhe mix, the summer seems set to roll on.
