Play as early as Friday, October 7
If you’re eager for Gears of War 4 and don’t mind parting with a hundred bucks, you can play the game four whole days before its official launch. One of the perks of the Ultimate Edition is early access on Friday, October 7, in addition to the usual steel case and season pass inclusion.
The season pass is $49.99 if purchased standalone, and it’s a weird one: “Includes exclusive Vintage VIP Pack featuring Vintage JD and two Vintage weapon skins, permanent access to 24 additional DLC maps (two per month for a year) for private play on dedicated servers, an exclusive Developer Playlist that grants access to new maps, modes, and features that can be tested prior to broad release and six Gear Packs (which unlock character and weapon skins, emblems, equipment and boosts).”
“Permanent access,” huh? As you might have heard, Gears 4 will have its multiplayer maps playable on rotation. They’re going to be free, but there’s also the option to purchase them for unrestricted access (or you can just have a friend buy the maps and then host a private game for y’all).
Alternatively, you could skip the $99.99 Ultimate Edition, and go all out for the with a tasteful statue of JD Fenix on a bike. I dig the lil fr🥃ag grenade keychain, admittedly.
