As you start to approach the mid-game portion of Warcraft Rumble, things get considerably harder. The Thousand Needles region can be a struggle, especially when it comes to taking on the “hard” challenge of the zone: Cairne Bloodhoof. Here’s how to take down the Horde-leader-turned-PVE-boss.
Claim both towers, then split your attacks to take down Cairne Bloodhoof
Cairne Bloodhoof has two things working in his favor: a strong leader mini that you’ll need to ultimately take out, and a semi-confusing map to discern. Let’s talk about both.
Step 1: Map control
The first thing you’ll want to do to gain control over this map is to take out both towers. The tower on the right is typically where Cairne will send the bulk of his units first. You can actually “bait” out CPUs fairly easily, and this map is a perfect example.
One key strategy is to pick an anti-tower unit like a Gargoyle to take out the left structure. The bulk of your battle is going to be on the right side of the map so you’ll need to fortify that accordingly, but the left is generally left open, and can be taken by a lone siege unit. Once Cairne summons units from the right side, immediately unleash your anti-tower/siege unit to the left. If needed, send out 1-2 support un𝓀its to help them take the tower.
Bat Riders work very well for taking down the tanky Warsong Grunts, and Abominations can counter the Ogre Mages. These are two of the peskiest minis you’ll be taking on while playing this map.
Step 2: Pincer Cairne Bloodhoof
With both towers under your control, you’ll have two staging areas to quickly send units in to take out Cairne, and you’ll have a bit of leeway when he sends his bulkier units. That way you can fully focus on fighting Cairne and not on defending your home base.
Cairne can deal a lot of area-of-effect damage to your army, so coming at him from two different angles (especially with range in the mix) will protect your units. You can also use unbound units on him to direct his attention elsewhere, just in case one of your “sides” dies entirely. The S.A.F.E. Pilot (the gnome) is one of the best units in the game, much less within the unbound category itself. Use it to splash down and take out support units Cairne summons to frantically try and fend you off.
