The process of capturing is essential, and there’s an advanced quest that works as a tutorial. However, you won’t need to wait long and can start capturing monsters with the right items. This guide will help you to master the art of trapping the creatures you come across in the game.

Monster Hunter Wilds Capture method explained

Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is tied with using traps. Traps have different kinds and natures, so check out our guide to learn more about them. In short, you’ll need to have traps and have them available on the Item bar.

You’ll start a battle like any other and reduce a creature’s health by a large portion. Wait for a clue from your Palico, who will claim that the creature has become weak; this will be your cue. The next task is to plant the trap and lure the creature to it. Once ensnared, chances are that the creature will pass out. If it doesn’t, make sure to use a few tranq bombs on it to help it calm down and doze off.

Once the creature has been trapped, you’ll get all the rewards from your quest. Of course, you can eliminate it, but that requires at least a few extra steps and minutes, if not more. You also can have a more generous conscience with the thought that you didn’t kill it (if that kind of thing matters to you).

How to craft traps in Monster Hunter Wilds

Since traps and tranq bombs are so important, you’ll need to craft them whenever you’re at a camp. Trap tools can be purchased from the Provisioner in any camp.

  • Pitfall Trap: 1 trap tool and 1 net. You can make a net from ivy and spider web.
  • Shock trap: 1 trap tool and 1 thunderbug capacitor. The latter can be obtained from thunderbugs.
  • Tranq bomb: 1 sleep herb and 1 parashroom. Sleep herbs can be found in Windswept Plains, Scarlet Forest, and Iceshard Cliffs. Parashrooms can be found in all four regions as you explore the lands.

That’s all you’ll need to create traps that can then be used to capture monsters. Do note that you can als🐽o trap and capture Endemic Life, which are the smaller critters found in different habita🦄ts.
