How to change character and Palico appearance in MHW

Monster Hunter Wilds offers two ways to change your character and Palico’s appearance:

  1. Use the Appearance Menu inside your tent.
  2. Redeem a Character Edit voucher through the main menu.

Within the first hour of your MHW playthrough, you’ll find a tent you can rest in, sell items, and change your appearance. You can also change your equipment’s appearance, Palico’s deployment status, and customize your loadout, among other options. Alternatively, you can change your character through the main menu if you have an appearance change voucher available.

Changing your character’s appearance through your tent

After arriving in the desert base camp, your first option is to enter your tent and cycle through the options until you reach the Appearance Menu. Here, you’ll find the following options:

  • Change Appearance
  • Equipment Appearance
  • Palico Equipment Appearance

The tent’s version of the appearance-changing menu lets you change aspects like hairstyle and color, eye color, and makeup, alongside some shape-changing options for your character’s face. You can also change your clothes, including their color and whether you wear underclothes. However, you can’t change your body composition, gender, or name, so this option has limitations.

The options for changing your Palico are mostly the same. You can modify its color, markings, and hair length, making just about every aspect of its appearance open to change. You can also change your and your Palico’s voice pitch if you wish, with the Palico also having access to its Felyne language.

Lastly, the Equipment Appearance menu allows you to hide certain gear parts, such as your helmet or gloves. You’ll also find the underclothes section again, which lets you quickly show or hide them and change their color if you’d like. The tent also lets you change your primary and secondary weapons if you want to try something new.

  3. Head to the Select Saved Data menu.

How to get Character Edit Vouchers in MHW

During your Monster Hunter Wilds playthrough, you can receive one character and Palico edit voucher by visiting the game’s storefronts and redeeming Capcom’s free vouchers. Below are the links for each:

Beyond these initial free trial versions, you can purchase three-voucher packs for $6.99 or $9.99 if you buy the Character and Palico bundle. If you want to make detailed changes to your character or Palico’s appearance over time and don’t mind spending a bit of money, you’ve got these as alternative options.
