You can change party members in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fairly easily. Here’s the step-by-step way to do that, so you can get Tifa’s powerful fists and Barrett’s barrage of gunfire into the battle.
How to swap party members in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
There are two main ways to swap party members in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The first is to go through the main menu. Pause the game and head to “Combat Settings.” From here, you can look at three preset parties. You can alter them by pressing the square button for “Edit Party.”
From here, you’ll see the Frontline and Backline. Press the cross button to select the character you want to switch into the main party or vice versa. Then select the placement you want the selected party member to be in. Thankfully, your characters in the backline will keep levelling up, despite not being in the active battles.
You cannot switch Cloud out, as he’s the main protagonist of the story, which makes sense. At least you can take photos of him with the Avalanche crew.
Once you have your parties set up in the Combat Settings, you can switch between them instantaneously. Press the Cross button while out of battle, then press either the L1 or R1 buttons. You’ll see the group’s names switch on the bottom right.
How to change party leaders
If you think Tifa is a stronger character than Cloud, you can make her the first person to battle in your team. Go back to the “Combat Settings” on the main menu. Then, hover over the character you want as the leader. Press the triangle button to confirm who’s the chief of the group.
You’ll still run around the open world as Cloud, but when a battle begins, the camera will change to the party leader’s perspective. If you want to switch back to Cloud, use the D-Pad during battle.
