How to complete A Hoot and a Half in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Let's help out Olaf.

Even though characters like Merida, Flynn, and Hades are the stars of Storybook Vale, the pack still sheds some light on other crucial DDV members. Olaf, in particular, gꦕets his ve🔜ry own quest as he attempts to discover more fun facts for his selection.

Here’s how to complete the A Hoot and a Half quest in Disney Dreamligh Valley The Storybook Vale.

How to start A Hoot and a Half quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To start A Hoot and a Half quest, you must pick up Olaf’s Fun Facts in The Library of Lore. It’ll be on the right side of the building, next to some couches.

Those not seeing this item may need to complete a specific quest. I found it after achieving Hades’ Guts and Glory mission, but it could potentially spawn beforehand. Once you collect Olaf’s Fun Facts, the quest begins shortly afterward. Open your map to find Olaf and give him the Fun Facts paper to progress further.

When you provide Olaf with the piece of paper, you must follow him to the Lorekeeper. Listen to their conversation, then speak to the Lorekeeper and Anna💝 to gather more information. Now comes the trickiest part of the mission: taking pictures of hidden things around the map. The owls will present the m💜ost challenge due to their limited schedule, making it hard to complete this task quickly.

A Hoot and a Half quest: How to take pictures of things around the Bind

You must capture photos🃏 of the following places/creatures for the A Hoot and aಌ Half quest:

  • The Library of Lore: Take a picture with the Lorekeeper.
  • A mysterious hidden doorway beneath the bridge in the Bind: This is the same doorway you opened up in Merida’s A New Chapter quest.
  • Two fountains: You’ll see fountains pretty much everywhere on the map. For example, you can find two on both sides of The Library of Lore.
  • Three Owls: The Brown, Dark, Light, and Purple Owls can be found in The Libary of Lore and The Bind. However, you’ll need to keep their schedule in mind.

The first task within the Library of Lore may cause some problems, as have noted that their pictures don’t count when inside this building. Taking a photo of the Lorekeeper seemed to work for me. But if it doesn’t register, you may need to go outside and capture the picture from there.

To show you a sneak peek of what the🌜se pictures need to look like, here are the ones tha𒅌t counted for me:

The owl photos require you to take a picture with three different types. That means you can’t perform the interaction with the same owl three times (I tried it myself, and it didn’t work). However, as mentioned before, it’ll be tough to find them with their restrictive spawn times. You can track them on the Collection’s Critters tab, noting their schedule. The game will more or less provide you with their exact timing, but sometimes, it’ll present you with a ‘Not here today.’

DDV Storybook Vale Owl schedule

For a complete overview of the owl’s schedule, here’s what you can expect:

OwlsLocationSchedule
Brown OwlThe Library of LoreAvailable all day on Monday to Friday. Unavailable on the weekends.
Dark OwlThe Library of LoreAvailable all day on Saturdays and Sundays. Unavailable on the weekdays.
Light OwlThe BindAvailable from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
Purple OwlThe BindAvailable from 12 a.m. to 9 a.m. every day.

The Dark Owl is the most challenging since it’s only available on the weekends in real-time. Although you may be inclined to change your device’s time, remember that it can corrupt your save file. Whenever I try it, objects become unclaimable, and fishing spots become inaccessible. Nevertheless, the game seems to eventually fix itself, as long as you don’t go too far in time.

Fortunately, you don’t need all four owls to complete the task, so just focus on the three you encounter. Return to Olaf after capturing the photos, and he’ll ask you to befriend one of the owls afterward.

Befriend an Owl around the Bind

Providing Barley to an owl helps you improve your relationship with it. You can get Barley seeds for 15 Star Coins at a nearby Goofy’s Stall.

Give the owl two Barleys to befriend it, and the quest should trigger its next step. Although the pܫursuit indicates that it must be an owl in the Bind, I completed it with the Brown Owl despite its Libra💎ry of Lore location.

DDV Autumn Mage Scarecrow recipe

One of the last steps of the A Hoot and a Half quest requires you to craft the Autumn Mage Scarecrow. Here’s a look into its ingredients:

  • 10 Petrified Wood
  • 5 Trumpet Snail
  • 5 Soil
  • 10 Pine Cone
  • 1 Sorcerer Hat Hermit Crab

Explore around the Storybook Vale map to locate all items, whether🅷 it be through fishing or simply picking them up from the ground. Use the ingredients at any Crafting Table and look under Furniture to start constructing the scarecrow.

Place it in the Bind and return to Olaf to complete the mission. Olaf rewards ♛you with more Barley and a 🐈boost in his Friendship Level.
