Don’t have a cow, man
Hateno Village returns in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with its idyllic farming life seeing some new complications thanks to the Upheaval. While you’re there, you may want to go and grab some of that famous cow milk. But rather than the store, you can open up a new avenue for stocking milk through the Dantz’s Prize Cows side quest.
Milk has a ton of uses in , from a basic consumable and cooking ingredient to, well, sticking it on an arrow. Not sure why you’d do that, but you can. You can buy some from the general store in Hateno, but you can also open up a trade avenue with the rancher Dantz, up on the hills above Hateno. You can get there by heading up the road, like you’re heading to the research lab, but taking a different fork at the sign.
How to get acorns for the Dantz’s Prize Cows side quest
Talk to Dantz, and he’ll give you the low-down: the milk quality of the ranch has been down, as he hasn’t been able to acquire the acorns he needs for the feed. Seems like some pesky squirrels are making it har♒der and harder to get acorns.
Well, Link has a solution. It really just involves taking out some squirrels. You’ll need to either scavenge, or aggressively acquire, three acorns to get the good feed back in stock.
Squirrels are one of the more skittish animals in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, so you’ll need to be extra quiet while sneaking up. You can go for a melee hit, but arrows work just as well. One squirrel equals one acorn, in our experience, so you’ll need to take out three. Alternatively, you could chop some logs down and see if acorns drop from them. If you’re already doing a quest that could use some tree-chopping, like retrieving the recipe from the lake, this is a two-birds-one-stone situation.
Get three acorns, take them back to Dantz, and you’ll get a free bottle of Fresh Milk for your trouble. Additionally, finishing the Dantz’s Prize Cows quest will see Dantz make a standing offer: three acorns for one Fresh Milk. It’s a nice way to save rupees, especially if you’re cooking a lot of milk products. And since you’re probably stopping by the pasture a fair bit while doing quests in Hateno, it’s worth knocking this one off your checklist.
