How to complete the Brannof Inheritance in Brighter Shores

X marks the spot.

One of the first side-quests Brighter Shores players will stumble onto as they explore Hopeport revolves around finding the estranged Brannof Family’s lost fortune. Finding this hidden treasure trove isn’t easy, but it is a fantastic way to familiarize yourself with the standard A-to-B pattern most Bright Shores‘ quests follow.

The road to the Brannof’s inheritance is long and winding, but you’ll reach the gold at the rainbow’s end if you follow my lead. Here’s how to find the Brannof inheritance in Brighter Shores.

How to start the Brannof Inheritance Quest in Brighter Shores

You’ll receive the Brannof Inheritance quest from Haley Brannof, owner and operator of Hopeport’s Scrapyard. Starting from Town Square, head south until you reach the Central Waterfront. Then, hook west to the Sea Road. The Scrapyard is a small building to the northwest.

Once you’re in the Scrapyard, talk to Haley. After you listen to her family’s tragic history and agree to help her reclaim her inheritance, Haley explains you’ll need to decode four clues split amongst the Brannof’s descendants. She’ll give you her clue immediately, which shows a spiral symbol. Then she’ll give you the names of the other three clue holders: Lord Brannof, James Newtap, and Oswald Hadley.

Lord Brannof is the ruler of Hopeport, and you can find him going about his lordly duties in Brannof Hall. Just head west from Town Square to get there. Lord Brannof will be in the room to the north. Lord Brannof is, understandably, suspicious you’ll try to run away with the treasure once you find it, so he asks you to allow a tracking spell to be cast on you before he parts with his clue.

To place yourself under surveillance, head back to the training grounds and speak to Sultar Malzak. Once you’ve explained the situation, he’ll head to Brannof Hall. Head back to Brannof Hall and watch Malzak cast the tracking spell. Once thoroughly ensorcelled, Lord Brannof will give you his clue, which features a falcon symbol.

How to get James Newtap’s Clue

James Newtap has the next clue you’ll need. The handyman is fixing a perpetually leaky pipe in the Pipe Alley, which you can reach by heading east from Town Square until you reach the second screen of Old Street East and then hooking into the alley between the Cloakroom and The Forager’s Wearhouse.

Newtap isn’t particularly interested in the treasure, but he still wants something in return for giving you his clue. That something is a potion that will restore his lost hair. Luckily, Ebsworth of the Hopeport Apothecary knows how to brew such a potion. Head to the Apothecary to talk with him and learn how to brew it.

Quick note: you must have raised your Potion profession to level fifty. Raising your level in any profession to that high of a level is tricky, so you’ll want to take advantage of Brighter Shore‘s Passive Activity system to raise your Potion profession passively while you work on other tꦉhings.

You’ll need a lock of Hair Beast Hair and a Scrap Rat to brew a hair loss potion. You can find the Hair Beast Hair from the Hair Beasts on the Rubble Road. The Rubble Road is north of Sea Road, past Overgrown Pond. You’ll want to be at least a tenth-level Guard before you try to take on a Hair Beast since they’re pretty tough. Hair Beasts won’t drop Hair unless you’ve talked to Ebsworth, so make sure you speak to him before you go hunting.

Getting a Scrap Rat is more complicated since you need to catch the grimy rodent alive. As their name implies, Scrap Rats live in the Scrapyard, so you’ll need to head back there after Ebsworth gives you a hunk of Red Cheese, the little vermin’s favorite snack.

You can use the Red Cheese on a Scrap Rat directly, but that won’t let you catch one. Instead, click on the bathtub in the room’s corner and put the Red Cheese under it. Once a Scrap Rat has taken the bait, click on the bathtub again and pull out the broom, holding the bathtub up to catch your quarry.

How to get Oswald Hadley’s Clue

The last clue holder is tricker to find than the others because Haley only gives you their last name, Hadley. Luckily, you don’t have to look far to find someone with that surname. Oswald Hadley is a regular at the Delectable Dab Resutant, and you can find him sitting at the table off to the right of the entrance.

All Oswald wants for his clue is a serving of Bigeye Gurnard Soup. You’ll need to have at least sixty-one levels in the Cooking profession to make this dish, so you might have to put this clue off until you’ve leveled the skill up enough.

To cook the Bigeye Guranrd soup, you’ll need Stock and a Bigeye fish. Once you’re a sixteenth-level cook, you can buy the stock from Kevin, and once you’re a fifty-ninth-level fisher, you can fish Bigeye at the Pirate’s Hideout. Once you’ve got them, read the Recipe Book in the Restaurant’s kitchen to learn the recipe. Serve it to Oswald, and he’ll give you his clue.

How to find the Brannof Inheritance

Once you’ve got all the clues, it’s time to start treasure hunting. You’ll need to pick up an Ink and Quill before you do this, so stop by either Captain Jal Degreene’s office or Lord Brannof’s chambers and grab one of their desks.

To find a clue, look for the symbol on the Overworld and check it. You’ll find the spiral symbol on the wall next to the scrapyard and the falcon symbol on a pillar on the first screen of their Wasteland. Once you’ve crossed them off, you can triangulate the treasure’s location!
