The Hellbrute is a colossal boss you must defeat in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. It’s the Chaos version of a Space Marine Dreadnought. All twisted Warp Metal on the outside with a corrupted Space Marine trapped and forever enraged on the inside.
You’ll face the Hellbrute after working your way beneath the Forge World to which the Tyranids have been laying waste. There are secrets down there that I won’t spoil here, but as you reach the point when you believe you’re about to save everyone, you quickly realize something has gone horribly wrong. The Hellbrute is your punishment, summoned by Imurah, and there’s no way to escape other than smashing it to pieces.
How to defeat the Hellbrute boss in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
To defeat the Hellbrute boss in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, you’ve got to keep your wits about you, dodge, and hit. This monster is all rage and melee attacks, and it’ll chase you down to smash your head into the arena in which you fight.
When I fought it, I had to dodge several times in a row just to get out of range. From there, I could get in some ranged shots to keep working away at its health. If you dodge at just the right moment, you’ll get a free counter shot, which does deal some damage, but don’t worry too much if you miss out on this.
After you’ve dealt enough damage to knock the Hellbrute’s health to the halfway point, it’s going to pull out some new attacks. First is a new melee attack that sees it hammer the ground to cause an explosion of Warp energy that’ll send you flying even if you’re outside of the main circle. You’ve got to dodge away from it fast and wait until the explosion is over to get back to shooting the beast.
The second new attack is a plasma blast that the Hellbrute will shoot four of in a row. Again, stop shooting and focus on dodging the attacks until they’re over. Then, you can head back into the fray and take the monster down.
Keep dealing damage until the Hellbrute is on its knees. At that point, you’ll be able to pull off an epic execution that’s probably the most satisfying in the game outside of the Lictor’s. Pay attention to the story that follows from the end of this battle because it’s essential for understanding the next few missions.
