If you’re familiar with promotional videos of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Storybook Vale expansion pack, you may have caught a glimpse of adorable little origami animals flying around. These are known in-game as Snippets, and they’re just as cute as they look in the videos. They’re also crucial for story progression.

How to find Bird Snippets
The first Snippet type you’ll encounter in The Storybook Vale is Bird Snippets. You’ll first find some in the Library of Lore during the main story, but more will appear later on.
Unlike squirrels, rabbits, and other animals in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s base game, Bird Snippets aren’t considered critters. Instead, they’re entirely separate beings that primarily spawn around The Storybook Vale’s biomes and even include a unique collection log category.
Outside of the Library of Lore, you can also find Bird Snippets in The Bind, Everafter’s The Wild Woods, and Mythopia’s The Elysian Fields. You can also find White Bird Snippets throughout Dreamlight Valley, which you can use to craft other Snippet types.
How to catch Bird Snippets
Catching Bird Snippets requires getting your hands on a Royal Net. You’ll unlock this net during the Welcome to the Storybook Vale quest, giving you quick and easy access to your first few birds. It’ll even require you to catch a bunch of Red Bird Snippets as a tutorial to the mechanic.
Once you have your Royal Net, equip it and press either right-click or space bar (or your platform’s equivalent) to swing it. Pressing it will launch a vertical swing while holding it lets you charge it up and spin in a circle, catching anything within its radius. It’s rare for Snippets to gather in a group, but you can get lucky and grab two or three with this.
You’ll also need both methods for future quests and puzzles, so it’s generally a good nugget of knowledge to keep in your mind.
Bird Snippets are the easiest of the three types to catch. Some you find later on fly quickly, but they only require one net swing to obtain. Later in the story, you’ll unlock ways to slow them down, making them much easier to catch.
How to find and catch Frog Snippets
Frog Snippets act similarly to Bird Snippets, requiring only one net swing to catch. There are four types, with the first being Green Frogs that appear in Everafter’s The Wild Woods biome.
However, unlike Bird Snippets, these frogs jump around the ground. Green and red are fairly slow and tend ♋to group up, while purple and yellow are quite fast and require 🏅some planning and precision.
Even though they’re on the ground, you can use either vertical or horizontal net swings to catch them. My go-to strategy was charging my spin swings and activating them as a frog jumped close to my character. It wasn’t perfect, but I managed to snag enough to complete the Lorekeeper’s stories without too many issues.
Although you’ll primarily find Frog Snippets in Everafter, you can also spot red ones in Mythopia’s The Statue’s Shadow. I wouldn’t rely on Mythopia for frog spawns, but it’s an option if you’re also hunting for Demon Snippets.
How to find and catch Demon Snippets
Speaking of Demon Snippets, they’re our third and most challenging type to get. Unlike Bird and Frog Snippets, you need multiple net swings to catch them, with rarer varieties requiring more swings.
You’ll encounter your first Demon Snippet in Mythopia’s The Elysian Fields. Here, you’ll find Pink Demon Snippets, with other varieties appearing throughout Mythopia and in Everafter’s Fallen Fortress. Catching Pink Demon Snippets requires at least two successful net swings, while ones in later regions require between three and five.
All Snippet types and locations
Every region in Storybook Vale has at least one Snippet type, with a few having two. Dreamlight Valley also has White Bird Snippets, which you can use at a crafting station to make previously unlocked ones. That way, if you’re struggling to get a certain Snippet type for the Lorekeeper, you can grab a few White Bird ones and convert them.
Below is every Snippet type and their spawn l൲ocations.
Snippet | Locations |
---|---|
Red Bird Snippet | The Library of Lore |
Blue Bird Snippet | The Bind |
Green Bird Snippet | The Elysian Fields |
Yellow Bird Snippet | The Wild Woods |
White Bird Snippet | Dreamlight Valley |
Pink Demon Snippet | The Elysian Fields The Fiery Plains |
Blue Demon Snippet | The Fiery Plains The Fallen Fortress |
Red Demon Snippet | The Statue’s Shadow |
Green Demon Snippet | Mount Olympus |
Green Frog Snippet | The Wild Woods Teapot Falls |
Red Frog Snippet | The Statue’s Shadow Teapot Falls |
Purple Frog Snippet | The Fallen Fortress |
Yellow Frog Snippet | The Beanstalk Marshes |
While some Snippets spawn in early-game locations, others appear exclusively in the late-game, making them much ♉harder and rarerꦆ to collect. You may even need several days to collect every Snippet you need, especially if you get unlucky and only find a few of a certain type.
What do Snippets do?
Snippets are crucial for re-ordering the Lorekeeper’s Storybook pages. Each page gives you a special reward, ranging from decorative items to furniture for your house. Every Snippet is used at least once, with some required for several pages.
Once you unlock a page, you’ll lose the required Snippets as they convert into the Lorekeeper’s magic. You can then re-order the pages by completing their mini jigsaw puzzles, rewarding you with various items.
