Coconuts are a multi-use item in Fortnite that you can use to restore some health or as a makeshift ranged weapon in desperate situations. During the Fortnite X Pirates collaboration event, they’re also a quest item during the fifth Pirate Code, making learning more about this and other fruits more important than ever.
Where to find coconuts in Fortnite
You can find coconuts in produce boxes all around the Fortnite map. Produce boxes commonly spawn in major points of interest and landmarks, with areas like Reckless Railways, Sandy Steppes, and Pleasan✨t Piazza having plenty to open. Within these produce boxes are items like apples, bananas, and mushrooms, with coconuts available as a potential random drop.
The most reliable spot for finding produce boxes is Reckless Railways, as over two dozen spawn in various areas, including outdoors. Reckless Railways also has several convenience stores, where you can spot produce boxes hiding in kitchens, behind counters, and on top of tables, giving♒ you numerous opportunities to find a coconut.
Alternatively, if you notice that a player is also running around looking for coconuts, you can try to eliminate them and steal any fruits on them. However, this isn’t a guaranteed way to get coconuts, and you’re usually better off searching for them yourself, especially if your opponent throws their coconut before you eliminate them.
How to hit other players with coconuts in Fortnite
Once you get your hands on a coconut, you can throw it by aiming it at a player and pressing your throw button. The aim and throw buttons are the same as a regular weapon, with the only difference being that you’ll find a blue projectile marker instead of a gun’s crosshair.
How you pull this off will partially depend on your mode. If you’re in squads, you can wait until a player is downed before throwing the coconut at them. For solo players, you’ll have to carefully outmaneuver your opponent and throw it without getting eliminated instantly. In most cases, this isn’t too difficult unless you’re up against multiple people, but you can also sneak up behind those who’re already in a fight. Regardless of your tactics, hitting someone with a coconut once will satisfy the requirement for Pirate Code Five.
