How to get Fire Quartz in Stardew Valley

You can collect many different items in Stardew Valley, and one of the most fun to find is Fire Quartz. Despite having few practical uses, it’s still a helpful item for gifting and quest completion.

Whether you’re looking to complete your museum collection or want a quick gift for one of your villagers, knowing where to find this mineral will help. Here’s our complete guide on finding Fire Quartz quickly and easily in Stardew Valley.

Fire Quartz locations in Stardew Valley

Below are some easy ways you can obtain Fire Quartz throughout your Stardew Valley playthrough:

• Floor spawns in the Mines and Skull Cavern
• Opening Magma Geodes and Omni Geodes
• Fishing (Treasure Chest loot)
• Panning in the Mountain lake and river

The Town Mines

One of the most surefire methods of getting a Fire Quartz is progressing through the mines until you reach level 80. The Mines in town cap out at level 120, but as long as you’re on level 80 or higher, you should be able to find Fire Quartz easily enough. Your best bet is to use the elevators to swap between floors 80 to 115, resetting the floors if you don’t spot any minerals right away.

Unlike gems like Emerald or Amethyst, you won’t need to mine rocks for Fire Quartz — instead, you’ll find them sitting on the ground, ready to pick up. Searching the ground in the mines is by far the fastest way to obtain Fire Quartz consistently, but there a🔯re several other methods you can us🎃e if you get bored of mining all day.

Skull Cavern

Once you unlock Skull Cavern in the desert, you’ll also be able to find Fire Quartz there and pick them up like in the regular Mines. I personally prefer to steer clear of that death trap early on, as there are easier ways to get the items I need. However, if you’re headed there anyway to collect other resources, just know you’ll be able to get your Fire Quartz there, too.

Opening Magma and Omni Geodes

There are several alternative ways to obtain Fire Quartz outside of mining in the main mines and Skull Cavern. However, these other methods are purely luck✤-based and can take a lot of grinding to accomplish.

Your first method is opening Magma Geodes and Omni Geodes. Magma Geodes are a common type found between levels 81 and 119 of the Mines, while Omni Geodes appear anywhere in level 21 or above in Mines by breaking rocks. Alternatively, you can find them as a common drop in Skull Cavern or purchase them from the Desert’s Oasis Shop on Wednesday for 500g each.

You can take any Geodes you find to Clint, the blacksmith, and he’ll break them open for 25g. Fire Quartz isn’t one of the more rare or valuable resources in the game, so there’s a good chance you can score one from a Geode.

Fishing

Your final option is obtaining Fire Quartz through fishing or panning. The mineral can appear in the treasure chests you sometimes encounter while fishing — make sure to equip the Treasure Hunter tackle on your fishing rod to increase the chance of the chests spawning if you’re going this route.

Panning in the Town River

Lastly, you can get Fire Quartz by panning in the river. This option will only be accessible to you after you remove the glittering boulder from the river next to the entrance to the Mines. Removing the boulder will require you to complete the Fish Tank Bundles in the Community Center or purchase the “Panning” option from the Joja Community Development Form.

Once panning is available to you, you’ll be able to sift through the river using your copper pan anywhere you see shimmers in the water. Doing so can award you with a Fire Quartz if you’re lucky. I wouldn’t recommend this or fishing as consistent sources of Fire Quartz. If they’re among your favorite Stardew Valley activities, though, you may get lucky and spot some occasionally as you’re looking for other drops.

How to use Fire Quartz in Stardew Valley

Although Fire Quartz doesn’t have a ton of uses in Stardew Valley, it’s still a helpful material to have on hand. Below are some of its uses:

• Crafting
• Gifting (Liked gift for most)
• Completing the Boiler Room’s Geologist Bundle in the Community Center
• Smelting into Refined Quartz
• Feeding to Lava Eels in a Fish Pond
• Completing Help Wanted requests

Your most likely use for Fire Quartz early on is completing your Community Center bundles. You need one Fire Quartz for the Geologist’s Bundle, which rewards you with five Omni Geodes once it’s complete.

If you already finished the Community Center and don’t wish to craft anything with Fire Quartz, you can also use it for gifting. Everyone aside from Leah, Linus, and Pierre like Fire Quartz, giving you a reliable way to gain some friendship points. However, no one loves it, so it isn’t a perfect gift. If you just need something quick to end the week, it’s not the worst option.

Aside from these main uses, you’ll also occasionally encounter it as a Help Wanted request item or a required item for Lava Eels in your farm’s Fish Pond. These are much more uncommon situations than crafting, gifting, and completing the Community Center, but they’re still worth keeping in mind as you progress in your Stardew Valley playthrough.
