How to get more healing items and pouch slots in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Never be on the back foot again.

One of the first things I noticed in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is that it starts with a frustratingly small number of healing items. It makes battles with the RDA harder, and you need to constantly be on the lookout for replenishments. So, here’s what you need to look for and how to increase your slots.

Where to find healing items in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

There are two main ways to heal in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The first is to get to safety and let yourself automatically refill your health bar. This sounds easy enough, but for it to refill, you need to keep your energy up, which means consuming food, and that’s not always viable.

The other way is to manually heal yourself with items by pressing left on the D-pad when necessary. The two items that will heal your Na’vi are Dapophet Pods and medkits. The former are native to Pandora, so they’re significantly easier to find than the medkits.

Dapophet Pods can usually be found near water. The plants often grow in groups near the shore of a body of water. Take a look at the picture above to see what to look for when searching. It’s a good idea to grab some every time you see them since your pouch can only hold two at a time before upgrading it. Luckily, water can be found all over Pandora, so you shouldn’t ever be too far from a group of Dapophets.

Slightly rarer, but just as effective, are medkits. These can be found in RDA bases, which makes them less than ideal to hunt for if the thing you need is health. Still, they’re good to get after you’ve infiltrated a base and need to recharge. You can find medkits in boxes around the bases, though it has to be said that they don’t stand out quite as well as Dapophet Pods. Look out for the little green boxes that usually hold the medkits.

Now, getting Dapophet Pods and medkits is all well and good, but only being able to hold two at a time is severely limiting. You’re going to want to increase the slots in that health pouch of yours.

There are two upgrades that can be unlocked for the pouch, “Larger Healing Pouch I” and “Larger Healing Pouch II.” Each upgrade increases your pouch by one for a maximum total of four. The first upgrade, pictured above, is relatively low on the Memories of the Survivor skill tree. It takes two skill points to unlock, but you can get it after the very first Vitality upgrade on the tree.

The second is a bigger task. You’ll need three skill points to earn it and four skill points to get the branches that lead to it, though one of those is Vitality II, which increases your overall health by 60, so it’s well worth doing.

Speaking of increasing health, Vitality II is only the second health upgrade of a possible four. If you need to increase your health pouch slots, it’s a good idea to increase your overall health too. The first Vitality is the initial branch on the Memories of the Survivor tree, so you already have that if you’ve upgraded your pouch.

Vitality II and III are both connected on the branches just below Larger Healing Pouch II. Those cost two and three skill points, respectively, so they aren’t cheap.

Unfortunately, Vitality IV is on a different branch and can’t be unlocked before you have II and III. To get the last health upgrade, you’ll need to first unlock Careful Step for one skill point. Then, Vitality IV will set you back a further four skill points.

Upgrade your health with Bellsprigs

Another way to permanently upgrade your Na’vi’s health is to find Bellsprigs, pictured above, scattered around Pandora. You can find Bellsprigs in caves and sheltered areas across the moon. To increase your health, you only need to walk up to the Bellsprig and touch it. Each interaction increases your overall health by three points.

You can also sometimes see Bellsprigs on your map of Pandora, so keep an eye out. When you do see one, it’s well worth going to find it.

Now, with all those Vitality, Bellsprig, and health pouch upgrades, you’re unlikely to ever get taken down by the RDA again.
