Explore the forests and look for a few trees

Where to find moss in Stardew Valley

You can find moss on trees during any season other than Winter. However, only trees with a green mossy texture 𝓀along their trunks have moss on them. Once you spot a mossy tree, hit it with an axe or scythe to get one to two moss out of it.

Mossy trees commonly spawn around the map, including in Cindersap, the Secret Forest, and your farm. As you travel around Pelican Town, the quarry and various forests, you’ll spot these trees everywhere, allowing you to farm moss quickly.

How to use moss in Stardew Valley

You’ll use moss in multiple crafting recipes, including the deluxe worm bin and mushroom log. Creating the deluxe worm bin requires a regular version of this machine and 30 moss, and it allows you to get better bait for fishing. The mushroom log also needs moss alongside ten hardwood to make, allowing you to obtain mushrooms occasionally. Placing one near wild trees will make it more effective, so crafting some and putting them in tree-filled areas is worth crafting.

You can also use it to cook moss soup. One bowl of moss soup requires 20 moss, making it slightly expensive when you’re just starting. Although the soup doesn’t give any status effects, it restores 70 energy and 31 health, making it useful for cave exploration.

Another use for moss is to create the Statue of Blessings after unlocking farming mastery. Alongside a stack of sap, fiber, and stone, you need 333 moss to craft it, making it an expensive structure. Be prepared to spend several days farming trees and searching for green rain to get this much.

Stardew Valley green rain weather event

Stardew Valley’s green rain is a Summer-exclusive event that helps you find moss faster by growing moss on trees and spawning bushes that drop it alongside fiber. If you need large quantities of moss, watching for green rain during Summer is the way to go. You’ll know a green rain day is approaching when your TV’s weather report says something strange is coming, followed by an in-game notification reiterating this.

Alongside moss, you’ll also find increased spawn rates for fiber plants and large green plants that drop Fiddlehead Fern. Take advantage of green rain to get as much moss as possible by using your scythe on mossy trees and clearing out fiber bushes. Harvest as many resources as possible, as these unusual plants and overgrown trees return to normal the next day. Nonetheless, the green rain event is still the best way to get moss quickly, especially if you have a lot of trees on your farm, in Cindersap Forest, and around the mountains.
