How to get Poison Frog Secretions in Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV)

Try not to croak in the process

Some materials in Final Fantasy XIV may seem less important than others at first glance. Poison Frog Secretions are one such material, as they’re not used for crafting gear, weapons, or food. But if you want to craft some Dawntrail housing items, you’ll need Poison Frog Secretions.&nbs🍃p;

Admittedly, Poison Frog Secretions are only a base ingredient for three of Dawntrail’s housing items – but that’s at the time of writing, and more craftable housing items are sure to be added across the 7.x timeline. Plus, the housing items that currently need these resources are arguably the most pretty of all that were added.

How to farm Poison Frog Secretions in Final Fantasy XIV

It will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone that Poison Frog Secretions come from Poison Frogs. This Wavekin enemy can be found in a small section of Kozama’uka, around (X:30.7, Y:17.2).

You’ll find a veritab♍le plague of these frogs in the area, and they’re all level 91. They’re easy to take down as soon as you step foot in the area as part of the MSQ, regardless of whether you go there first or you head to Urqopacha first.

The drop rate for Poison Frog Secretions is relatively low, from my own experience. They occasionally drop betwee♉n one and three Secretions per kill, but you can take down three or four frogs without getting a single drop. It’s a bit hit and miss, but thankfully there’s a better way to get Poison Frog Secretions.

How to get Poison Frog Secretions with Bicolor Gemstones

Even if you’ve only ever completed one FATE in Kozama’uka, you’ll have unlocked the the local Gemstone Trader. Kunuhali can be found close to the Ok’hanu Aetheryte at (X:17.4, Y:11.0) and sells Poison Frog Secretions (as well as other materials, such as Lesser Apollyon Shells) for 3 Bicolor Gemstones each.

However, if you’ve completed all of your Shared FATEs in each area of Dawntrail, you’ll have the two city state Gemstone Traders unlocked. These two vendors, in Tuliyollal and Solution Nine, sell all of the materials which are otherwise available from each area’s local Gemstone Traders for the same price.

The two city state Gemstone Traders in Dawntrail can be found in the following locations:

  • Beryl in Solution Nine (X:8.4, Y:14.0)
  • Kajeel Ja in Tuliyollal (X:12.8, Y:13.0)

Although not the lucrative method to obtain Poison Frog Secretions, you can passively get some through the following Retainer Ventures:

  • Hunting (Level 91)
  • Field Exploration (Level 91)

However, thisಌ method will provide a maximum of 15 Poison Frog Secretions per 18 hour venture, not to mention the fact that it relies on luck, making💯 it a very unreliable way to get the material.
