Since this is a survival horror game, your first instinct might be to whip out your trusty pistol and fill these leech-lipped abominations full of holes. However, there’s only so much spare ammunition lying around. Luckily, I learned you can take out Blood Zombies without spending a single bullet if you get the drop on them.

Enigma of Fear features a lot of diegetic tutorials, and the one on sneak-attacking is no exception. Once you’ve entered the Starch House, hook into the first door on your left. You should see a𒅌 wardrobe cabinet with some notebook p🦹aper stuck to it.

This note, left behind by a member of the previous team sent in to investigate the Starchs, tells you that the Blood Zombies won’t notice anything sneaking up from behind them. This observation might sound obvious, and it probably is, but I know I would’ve never realized that if the game hadn’t told me upfront.

Sneaking is an essential mechanic in Enigma of Fear, but you’re never given an in-game explanation on how to do it. You can sneak by hitting the Control key if you’re playing with mouse-and-keyboard controls. If you’re using a controller, you click the left stick.

Once you’ve grabbed the crowbar from the basement, which you need to encounter Blood Zombies in the first place, you have everything you need to sneak attack them. If a Blood Zombie hasn’t noticed you, wait until it’s back is to you and sneak up on it. Once it’s close enough, hit the E key (or the interact button) to crack it over the back of the head. This only stuns it, so make sure you click E or the interact button again to deliver the coup de grâce.

Quick warning: sneak attacks are as risky as they are rewarding. Blood Zombies can turn on a dime, and if that happens, they’ll see you. Unless you’re lucky, you probably won’t have time to get out of the way before they take a chunk out of you. Take some time to memorize the Blood Zombies shamble pattern before you commit to moving in for the kill, and don’t hesitate when you do.

Sneak attacks are easily the best way to dispose of Blood Zombies. They let you save your ammunition for encounters where stealth isn’t an option, so you won’t have to worry about being out of bullets at the worst possible moment if you master them. It also makes you feel like a badass paranormal investigator.
