How to start A Rift in Time expansion in Disney Dreamlight Valley

You'll need to buy it, then finish a few starting quests

Disney Dreamlight Valley 1.0 is now live, and the dream of full free-to-play is dead. Dreamlight Valley is now officially a paid game (with microtransactions), and it’s launching with paid DLC. Here’s how to navigate that brave new premium world.

To start A Rift in Time, you’ll need to buy it first

In addition to buying the base game (or getting it via Game Pass), you’ll have to fork over $29.99 for the A Rift in Time expansion. Here’s what you get for your money:

  • A new story on Eternity Isle featuring Jafar
  • Three new biomes (Ancient’s Landing, Glittering Dunes, Wild Tangle)
  • Four new villagers (EVE, Rapunzel, Gaston, Jafar)
  • Scramblecoin (a new board game)
  • The Royal Hourglass (a new mechanic that involves crafting and building)

Once you’ve paid the cash, you need to do a few early quests

As Gameloft notes, there are required quests for unlocking the A Rift in Time zone/expansion. These can be completed in the initial hours of play, so don’t expect to boot up a brand-new copy and jump right in.

Here’s what you need to clear first:

  • The Dream Castle (Merlin)
  • Making Cents of Things (Scrooge)
  • Fishing Expedition (Goofy)
  • Scrooge McDuck’s Grand Re-opening (Scrooge)

How to complete The Port of Many Worlds in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Once all of the above quests are done, your game state will allow you to continue with th꧟e DLC starting quest. This happens via a short cutscene that chucks a plinth into the north side of the plaza (the exact location can be found on the map above). Speak to Jafar to get the Port of Many Worlds quests, which can be com⛦pleted via Merlin.

So this is the super annoying part. I had to actually restart my game to get the Jafar cutscene to trigger. This happened to me while loading into my game that already had the quests completed, after I had the DLC active on my account. Try restarting if you don’t see anything in the plaza to start the DLC.

Once the plinth is in place, interact with it, then speak to Merlin, who will direct you toward the Dream Castle (to the north of the Plaza). Head inside, walk up the stairs, then veer left to find “the gate.”

Merlin will unlock the gate and send you on your way to the Stardust Port. Head right and interact with the “ancient vessel” (the old boat). Congrats! You can now enter the A Rift in Time DLC.

Where is the Ancient Gate?

Your first DLC quest doesn’t give you much in the way of directions, but we’ll help you out. To find the Ancient Gate, head northwest right after you enter the Docks area of Ancient’s Landing.
