Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Rift in Time expansion pack has three acts surrounding Jafar and his schemes to take over the world. While it seems like he’ll be evil forever, the third act reveals an interesting twist to this tale. Let’s talk about how to unlock Jafar in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Be careful as you read further, as there are major spoilers to Rift in Time’s ending and epilogue.
Jafar unlock requirements in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Unlocking Jafar as a friendship character in Disney Dreamlight Valley requires completing the entirety of the game’s Rift in Time expansion pack, including its epilogue. Upon entering the third act, you’ll need to finish the following quests:
- The Palace of Time
- Jafar’s Laboratory
- The Now and Then
- The Lesser Evil
Throughout these four quests, you’ll complete a series of objectives that have you confronting and thwarting Jafar’s plans before resolving the situation. While he won’t be a true resident of Dreamlight Valley quite like everyone else, he’ll still exist on Eternity Isle for you to talk to and befriend.
The Palace of Time quest
The first part of this multi-part series is The Palace of Time. During this quest, you’ll enter Jafar’s Palace alongside Merlin and search for Jafar. Along the way, you’ll encounter multiple puzzles you must solve to advance.
The first part of this puzzle series will introduce you to large hourglasses that give you different perspectives of the p🅷alace. Once you see the broken bridge, interact with the hourglass directly to your left to reveal a fixed version, allowing you to cross without ꦅissues.
Similarly, you’ll find another hourglass and an exit blocked by strange blue magic. Flipping this hourglass will return you to your original view, with the blue mist disappearing. Enter the door to move on to the next step.
From here, things get a little complicated. You’ll find a stone panel on the ground to rotate, a gold pedestal with a rotating mirror, and an hourglass. Flipping the hourglass one way lets you turn the stone dial and mirror while the other half reveals light shooting toward the mirror. Angle the mirror so that the light bounces off its surface and shoots toward the circle on the wall to open the exit, allowing you to proceed to the next room.
Before leaving, you can open a gre๊en treasure chest here for a bonus prize. Before exiting, head left to find a broken iron fence, revealing a chest behind some swirling sands. Clear the way to get a furniture pouch before moving on to the next area.
The final part of this area is flipping the final hourglass to unlock the door to Jafar’s throne room. Flip the hourglass to start the next section of this four-part series.
Jafar’s Laboratory quest
Shortly after entering Jafar’s throne room, you’ll get an objective to explore the castle. While the right staircase has a green chest with a furniture pouch, the stairs on the left lead to his laboratory. Entering this room immediately begins the Jafar’s Laboratory quest.
Once you enter Jafar’s Laboratory, you’ll find several things: an hourglass, more swirling blue mist, and a large platform. Go up the platform to meet a hungry raven who just so happens to know where to find a key to unlocking part of Jafar’s throne room. It’s time to get cooking.
Your objective here is to create bird food for the raven. Reading a nearby book reveals that the raven loves fresh vegetables and rotten seafood. Next to this book is an ingredient table with ripe vegetables and seafood. Pick up the vegetables before interacting with the nearby hourglass to turn everything rotten. Now, you have access to rotten clams and fish, which you’ll need for the bird food.
Once you have your ripe vegetables and rotten fish, use everything on the nearby grill to make bird food for the raven. Upon returning, you will receive a power coil, which you can use in the machine to power up the rotating stone panels and mirror. Like before, you’ll have to turn these to shoot light at the wall, using the nearby hourglass to swap perspectives.
Once you turn the mirror toward the wall and clear the blue mist, you’ll find a golden key to unlock the throne room gate. Opening this will begin a cutscene with Jafar, leading to you teleporting to the Black and White Island with Mickey Mouse. It’s time to start the Now and Then quest.
The Now and Then quest
Upon arriving on the Black and White Island, you’ll talk to Mickey Mouse about the predicament. Since you’ll need to return to Eternity Isle and Jafar’s Palace, you and Mickey must use your creativity to figure out how to leave. Fortunately, there are three items on Black and White Island that are the key to leaving.
Scattered throughout the island are three objects you’ll need to find:
- Rapunzel’s Lantern
- Mickey’s Hot Dog Roaster
- Gaston’s Ship in a Bottle
Among the items on the island is a key to unlocking a treasure chest containing Gaston’s Ship. Without this key, you won’t be able to progress further, meaning we have four total items to find.
The first item is Rapunzel’s Lantern, which you’ll spot under some copper rocks near the coastline. Head down the hill and look for large copper boulders before breaking them with your pickaxe to reveal the lantern.
The second object is Mickey’s hotdog roaster, which you’ll find on top of the hill. To get the hotdog stand, head back up the hill, clear away the nearby copper rocks, and dig up the hole with a pipe sticking out the top.
Next, you’ll need a key to unlock the chest containing Gaston’s ship chest. You’ll find the key in the water surrounding the island, with fishing bubbles indicating their exact location. Aim at this spot to get the key to the treasure chest.
With the key in hand, head around the hill until you spot another copper rock blocking the way to a cave. Upon breaking it, you’ll reveal a treasure chest containing Gaston’s ship in a bottle.
Now that you have all three items, return to Mickey to put together a peculiar contraption with each object, allowing you to return to the castle. Following another cutscene with Jafar, you’ll officially complete the Rift in Time’s storyline and begin its epilogue.
Getting Jafar out of the lamp
The last part to unlocking Jafar is completing the Lesser Evil quest. After completing The Rift in Time’s story, you’ll find a seemingly random cactus in the Glittering Dunes’ Plains biome. Interact with it to begin the mission.
Interacting with it leads you to talk to Oswald about it. He’ll tell you he created it alongside two other 2D objects you’ll need to hunt down. Just be careful, as they can blend into decorations easily.
The first 2D object is in the Wild Tangle’s Grasslands. Unlike other nearby trees, it has blue-green leaves and is much smaller in appearance, making it noticeably different. It’ll also sparkle like the cactus, differentiating it from other objects.
The second object is a statue in Ancient’s Landing’s docks area. You’ll spot the statue in front of the entrance to The Courtyard. Since it’s small and 2D, it’ll stick out like a sore thumb compared to other decorations in the area. Like the other two objects, it’ll sparkle at its base to confirm that you found the right item.
Once you have every item, talk to Merlin to continue the quest. He’ll tell you about spatial magic and all that fun jazz, leading to you returning to Jafar’s laboratory to learn more. After reading a few books, Merlin will realize even he has no idea what’s happening. You’ll have to resort to a drastic measure: releasing Jafar from his magic lamp and asking him what to do.
After going to the Cave of Wonders and placing the lamp in the stone statue’s hands, you’ll meet Jafar once more and talk about the situation. Following a brief conversation, you’ll officially unlock him as a character you can befriend.
