Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap has a roster of different characters for you to pick, but unlocking Max, the secret unit, requires some extra steps. Thankfully, the process isn’t too elaborate.

How to obtain secret unit Max in Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap

To unlock Max in Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, you’ll need to find five Crystal Shards. You can find these shards spread across the Order Fortress, which serves as the main hub of the game.

To unlock the character, just 🌠c🦄omplete the following steps.

• In the Order Fortress, you’ll find a large exclamation point. If the exclamation point no longer appears for you, try to find the marker on the mini-map. The marker will look like a quill and a sheet of paper.
• You’ll find a set of stairs behind Max. Go up and look for the blue crystal by the bed.
• To find the second crystal, walk around the pillar next to the small set of stairs. You’ll find a larger set of stairs that will take you to the top. Turn left, and you’ll get the second crystal.
• The third crystal is located right opposite to the second one. You’ll need to use Kalos’ leap ability to get it off the platform.

• Return to the tutorial area and use Kalos’ leap ability again to get on top of the pillars. Move towards the balcony, and use jumps to land on the pillars. Reach the final one to get the fourth shard.
• Follow the straight corridor to the north of the portal, and you’ll find the weavers (denoted by a thread icon on the minimap). The final shard will be located behind the weavers.

Once you collect the final shard, you’ll get an in-game pop-up informing you about Max getting unlocked in Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap. You’ll now be able to select him like all other characters on the roster.
