The world of Black Myth: Wukong is littered with flora to gather, much of which is used for crafting medicine. However, while you can pick various herbs and fungi early in the game, the way to unlock medicine crafting in Black Myth: Wukong doesn’t come right away.
Medicine crafting is unlocked in Chapter Two of Black Myth: Wukong. But unlike many abilities you gain in the game, there is a possibility to miss it. You have to speak with someone in the arid landscape that comprises the game’s second chapter. If you don’t, well, I’m not sure if you can unlock medicine later down the line.
Where to unlock medicine crafting in Black Myth: Wukong
To unlock medicine crafting, you’ll need to speak with a certain guy.
This guy:
🗹The friendly, if a bit eccentric, fox-like yaoguai says he will teach you medicine crafting after you retrieve a formula stolen from him by a frog.
This frog:
But first things first, you’ll need to find the medicine-crafter. From the starting area of the chapter, head toward the pond and take the path winding deeper into the rocky terrain on your left.
Navigate the winding path while defeating enemies. Soon, you’ll stumble across a Keeper’s Shrine, guarded by a rat yaoguai.
From the shrine, head toward the bridge separating you from the nearby town. Drop from 🐼the bridge (you can also find the p𝄹ath that goes around) into the crevasse below.
Go inside the dark cave. The fox yaoguai you need to speak with is near the cave’s exit.
To complete his task, you must fight the frog squatting in the pond near the cave exit. The creature is akin to a field boss, much like the Wandering Wight, but thankfully far less stressful.
The frog boss, called Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, can still be a tough fight. It uses its long tongue to jab and sweep out your feet from afar. Getting close is also perilous, as it will swipe at you with its hand or hop onto your head. At medium range, it’ll try to close the gap with a short-hop attack.
Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw also uses lightning powers. It charges its tongue attack with electricity. After knocking off around a fourth of its health, it’ll enter a new stage where it will call down lighting from the sky and use its tongue to suck you into its mouth. It will also send out slow-moving bolts that can track you down. If you get hit by enough of its electrical attacks, you’ll enter a Shocked State, which increases damage received.
Once the frog is fried, you receive the Evil Repelling Medicament formula, a Stone Spirit, a Yaoguai Core, and Tadpole materials. Take the formula 𝓀to our fox friend, who rewards you with two Evil Repelling Medicament items, along with knowledge on how to make it and much more.

How to craft Celestial Medicine in Black Myth: Wukong
We’re not done with our fox friend yet. As you progress further into Chapter Two, you’ll come across our medicine-crafter once more. We now know his name, Xu Dog, but that’s not the most important result of your second meeting.
Xu Dog can be found near the Keeper’s Shrine at the Crouching Tiger Temple Cellar. Speak with him and he’ll allow you to create Celestial Medicine.
Celestial Medicine comes in the form of pills that apply permanent status buffs. You ca𒆙n craft the medicine by exchanging Will and Mind Cores, rare ingredients that can be found via activities like beating bosses. Some pills take more than one Mind Core to create, so be sure to check how many get used per pill.
Here is the list ﷽of Celestial Medicines you can craf🍎t when you meet Xu Dog again:
- Jade Lotus Pill
- Increases max health
- Taiyi Pill
- Increases max mana
- Nonary Pill
- Increases max stamina
- No-Mind Medicament
- Increases defense
- Iron Bull Pill
- Increases stamina recovery rate
- Yang Supplementing Pill
- Increases Chill resistance
- Water Jade Pill
- Increases Burn resistance
- Bloom Seed Decoction
- Increases Poison resistance
- Wujin Pill
- Increases Shock resistance
You can reverse the buffs after you purchase a single Pill item from Xu Dog. Once you do, a new option called ‘Remake Celestial Medicines’ appears in Xu Dog’s menu. Pick a buff to revert and hold the button to return the ingredients to your inventory.
The second chapter of Black Myth: Wukong has many more secrets and activities. If you’re trying to figure out how to help the Drunken Pig or find more Yaogaui Cores, we have what you need.
