Monster Hunter Wilds‘ SOS Flare system is a simple but effective way of asking for support if you’re caught in trouble on a hunt.
Even skilled veterans might find a fight tough to complete on their own. The SOS feature allows you to call in for backup if you find yourself stuck in the mud. Let’s take a look at how you can call in your friends to get you out of trouble.
How to use SOS in Monster Hunter Wilds
The beauty of the SOS Flare feature is that you can use it anytime during a battle. Once the battle has started, press the LB/L1 button to open the radial wheel. Press the LS to select the SOS Flare option from the radial menu. The game will ask for confirmation before your character fires the fl♓are to call in help.
You can customize the appearance of your radial wheel. The LS direction mentioned here is the default option available when you ไlaunch the game.

How do SOS Flares work in Monster Hunter Wilds
Once you have fired the flare, up to three players can join the hunt. To do so, they will have to accept your request for help. You can do the same by accepting the request of another player. If you’re already playing in a full party, you won’t have any option to fire a flare. To have the chance, at least one player from your party must leave/quit the game.
Untilꦫ another human player arrives, Support Hunters will be there to back you up. These are AI-controlled hunters that will assist you temporarily. They will leave once other human players have arrived to help you.
Do note that when you’re firing a flare, you’ll temporarily lose control over your character, and they will be susceptible to damage. Hence, try to keep some distance from the enemies before you choose to fire the flare.
