How trading works in Pokémon TCG Pocket

Trading is important in a trading card game.

It’s official; you can now trade cards with other players in Pokémon TCG Pocket. While its first few months had this as a “Coming Soon” feature, you can now swap cards with friends to add to each other’s collections. However, trading comes at a steep price.

How to trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket

You’ll find Pokémon TCG Pocket’s trading screen by heading into your Social Hub tab and tapping Trade. Doing so brings up a trading tutorial detailing two currencies you need and restrictions with the card types you can swap. Once you’re ready to trade, tap the next Trade button, select a friend, and send them an offer using any card you wish.

If you’re attempting to trade shortly after Pokémon TCG Pocket’s January 29, 2025 update, you may have to update your game manually to access this feature. Otherwise, you’re safe to trade to your heart’s content.

Once you gain access to the Trade menu, you can initiate a trade with anyone on your friend list. Every trade consumes one Trade Stamina, but some also use Trade Tokens if you’re swapping high-value cards. You can also only initiate one trade at a time, but you can terminate it at any point to return your cards and stamina.

However, you can’t trade every card type. Two-star, Three-star, Crown, and Promo cards are unavailable to trade, leaving you with the four diamond types and One-star cards. Although this gives you plenty of exchange options, you’ll have to wait for future updates before swapping higher-value cards.

What is Trade Stamina?

Trade Stamina is one of two currencies you need to initiate trades between yourself and other players. You can have up to five at a time, letting you engage in five trades before waiting for them to recover. You’ll naturally recover one Trade Stamina every 24 hours, but you can also buy some with Poke Gold.

What are Trade Tokens?

Trade Tokens are the second currency you need for trading high-value cards. While cards with one or two diamonds don’t require any Trade Tokens to exchange, three-diamond and higher have various costs, as detailed below:

  • One-Diamond cards: No Trade Token cost
  • Two-Diamond cards: No Trade Token cost
  • Three-Diamond cards: 120 Trade Tokens
  • Four-Diamond cards: 500 Trade Tokens
  • One-Star cards: 400 Trade Tokens

You can get more trade tokens by selling cards in your inventory. You can find this sell option by heading into your My Cards screen, picking any card, and tapping Obtain Items. Here’s a breakdown of how many Trade Tokens you’ll get for each rarity:

  • One-Diamond cards: Can’t sell
  • Two-Diamond cards: Can’t sell
  • Three-Diamond cards: 25 Trade Tokens
  • Four-Diamond cards: 125 Trade Tokens
  • One-Star cards: 100 Trade Tokens
  • Two-Star cards: 300 Trade Tokens
  • Three-Star cards: 300 Trade Tokens
  • Crown cards: 1,500 Trade Tokens
  • Promo cards: Can’t sell

In short, if you want to trade one three-diamond card, you’ll have to sell five three-diamonds or one four-diamond. Similarly, trading one four-diamond requires selling a mix of cards, making this the most expensive and challenging part of Pokémon TCG Pocket’s card trading.
