The first volume of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection is finally out, and it collects Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Snake’s Revenge, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (plus extras). Naturally, a lot of Metal Gear diehards are ready for the next one: and we might know what a potential “volume 2” could entail!
Leaked by way of the game’s Unity-based Master Collection launcher code (), there are buried listings for Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Peacewalker, all of which could make it into a subsequent volume 2 release. No, you’re not dreaming: this was a꧒lso pointed out back in June of this year, when the same content lineup was leaked as a result of datamining efforts from the collection’s official website.
The real “get” here is Peacewalker (even if it was released in 2011’s Metal Gear Solid HD Collection), as “numbered” Metal Gear Solid games would clearly make it into some form of a cღompilation: but this would be fairly huge news as far as one core entry is concerned.
Will Metal Gear Solid 4 finally be released for modern platforms?
As many have pointed out ever since the moniker “Volume 1” was uttered by Konami, this would be a fairly huge deal for both entrenched and prospective Metal Gear fans. Most notably, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been stuck in PS3-land since 2008, which is absolutely insane to think about. I was in the process of moving for one of the first times in my life when it hit, and I managed to play half of it before relocating, and the other half afterward. It was a surreal experience that I’m looking forward to reliving once again. If this second collection actually happens, of course.
What other Metal Gear games could come in a collection?
Here are a few of the outliers that haven’t been talked about yet:
- Ghost Babel (the Game Boy Color game that’s flawed but super interesting)
- Metal Gear Acid (yeah they straight up called a game Metal Gear Acid)
- Metal Gear Acid 2
- Portable Ops/Portable Ops Plus
There’s little chance of a new version of Twin Snakes seeing the light of day (the updated GameCube rendition of the original Metal Gear Solid), but I can dream.
