Is Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis a Gacha Game?

Prepare to pray to the RNG gods

Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis has been surprisingly hard to understand since its announcement. Originally announced for mobile devices in 2021, it was pitched as “another possibility for a remake.” Featuring content from Final Fantasy 7 as well as the extended “Compilation of” universe, you might naturally think Ever Crisis will be a proper “sit-down” RPG. Or, at the very least, something like Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. So is Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis just a gacha game?

Well, yes, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is a gacha game. Players will have to roll the dice to obtain both weapons and costumes to equip on your team. This set-up may sound familiar to anyone who played Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia. Fortunately, this also means you won’t have to roll for your favorite cha𝔉racters. However, you’ll realisti♓cally want to use characters that synergize with your weapons the best.

Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis does feature open-ended sections that do resemble playing Final Fantasy 7 proper. However, it’s best to approach this one as a Final Fantasy 7 mobile game and not another Final Fantasy 7 remake.

Is Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis pay-to-win?

Only time will tell if Ever Crisis is truly pay-to-win. Typically, Square Enix gacha games tend to keep their main story content easy. I’d be surprised if you needed to pay money to enjoy most of the content in the game. It’s typically the optional content that might require the best weapons and teams to clear right away. We’ll only get a real feel for this once Ever Crisis is out for a few months.

Of course, given the cosmetic nature of the gacha, some collectors 🔯may find themselves tempted to spend mo♋ney on their favorite outfits. Always exercise due caution when playing games like this, as no game is worth getting into financial trouble over.
