Jon Hamm confirms what role he turned down in the DC universe

Hopes are still there for an MCU appearance, though.

Jon Hamm, best known for his work in the Mad Men series, ༒has now revealed that he has rejected proposals from Warner Bros several times to be a part of their DC movies to play Green Lantern. Instead, the actor offered himself to Marvel Studios several times to portray a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The actor told that he “definitely didn’t want to do” a Green Lantern role for DC. While Hamm revealed his eagerness tꦇo be a part of the MCU instead, he did not disclose the character in particular. Hamm recalled asking Marvel Studios if they were planning on adopting a certain comic book, and the studio confirmed that they were actually looking into it. The actor is hopeful that the proposal to Marvel Studios might work out.

Jon Hamm also explained that he wants his career to be on the same trajectory as that of Jeff Goldblum, highlighting how he steals the show with his appearances in the Marvel movies. Goldblum has played the role of The Grandmaster in the MCU, who ruled over the planet Sakaar in Thor: Ragnarok.

As for the Green Lantern role, Hamm was referring to the Green Lantern movie that came out in 2011, which eventually starred Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. However, both DC fans and Reynolds quickly moved on from that movie, with the actor even taking a clever self-dig at his decision to play Green Lantern during the post-credit of Deadpool 2.

Hamm was not a fan of the DC movies back then either. He told back in 2015 that even though the studio came after him “pretty hard for Green Lantern”, he only had a “meh” reaction to offer since he felt that they didn’t make the kind of movies he liked to see anymore, apparently.
