Junji Ito’s Uzumaki drops new trailer ahead of anime release

It features skin-crawling scenes!

The much-awaited anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s iconic horror manga Uzumaki is almost upon us. But before its official premiere on September 28, Adult Swim unveil꧙ed a new goosebump-inducing trailer for the anime.

Unlike the previous teasers, the new trailer offers a deeper glimpse into the disturbing, spiral-driven horrors that the mini-series will deliver. Fans are treated to haunting visuals of the unsettling spiral curse that plagues Kurozu-cho, alongside eerie transformations of the town’s inhabitants.

The anime adaptation of Uzumaki was initially slated for release in 2020, but production faced multiple delays. It was initially pushed to 2021, then October 2022 due to COVID-19. In June 2022, however, the due to the creators’ desire to ensure a faithful and high-quality adaptation. After a four-year wait, the haunting four-episode mini-series is finally set to air.

Renowned director Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushi-Shi and The Flowers of Evil) helms the series, alongside a production team consisting of Studio Drive, Studio Akatsuki, Production I.G. USA, and Adult Swim. Composer Colin Stetson, known for his work on Hereditary, is composing the music.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Uzumaki is a horror masterpiece by Junji Ito. Set ꦚin the foggy coastal town of Kurozu-cho, the story follows Kirie Goshima and her boyfriend Shuichi Saito as they witness terrifying spiral-related phenomena that begin to consume their town. What starts as strange obsessions and mysterious markings evolves into a town-wide curse as the spiral shape takes over the lives and minds of the inhabitants.
