Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima has embraced a future where Cloud delivery and augmented reality take hold, joining a growing cabal of developers who believe that consoles are on the way out and game streaming is on the way in.

Tha🤡t said, the eccentric designer was unsure how this technology would manifest itself.

While speaking at the University of Southern California last night, he also claimed that having one man leading a game project was the heart of “true” game design, likening game directors as head chefs in a restaurant. However, he noted that collaboration was still important, saying,  “First, come up with something you like and then show it to as many people as you can. Tweak it, and get their opinions.”

Having one man leading development is good only if you have a game director with a keen enough eye for narrative. Even Metal Gear Solid, a series I absolutely love, might have benefited from greater outside influence to keep it getting so waffling and complex. I’d also mention another game director, but I don’t want to encourage that “Jim has a vendetta” thing. So I won’t talk about him.
