Green Goblin, Dr. Doom, Venom, and other villains in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is getting a better-late-than-never Nintendo Switch port

Straight up, I want to play as the X-Men in more video games

I didn’t realize until today that LEGO Marvel Super Heroes isn’t playable on Nintendo Switch yet — but it will be. WB Games and TT Games are rolling out the original game for Switch players on October 5, 2021. For reference, its sequel has been on the system since November 2017, and it’s ($7.49 instead of the usual $29.99).

The Nintendo Switch version of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes includes the Super Pack and Asgard Pack, which mostly translates to extra characters: Dark Phoenix, Winter Soldier, Symbiote Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Falcon, Beta Ra💫y Bill, Thanos, A-Bomb, Kurse, Sif, Jane Foster, Odin, Volstagg, Hogun, and Fandral. Thereꦡ are more Spider-Mobile races, too.

I’m not sure what the consensus is here in the longwinded LEGO game power rankings, but I like the first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes quite a bit. These wide-ranging comic-book characters are an undeniably good fit for this style of light action game, to the point where I didn’t mind grinding out hundreds of Gold Bricks and reaching 100% completion. (At the time, anyway.) I liked it enough to stick with it, which I can’t say for every LEGO game.

That said, I’d expect this to feel dated. It’s originally a 2013 game, after all. Pricing and performance haven’t been discussed yet, and those are going to be big factors. If it falls short in either way, well, that’s what eShop sales are for, and this is a prime candidate.

The Nintendo Switch being what it is (a console that’s reaching all sorts of audiences, including lots of families), you’d think they’d want to get all LEGO games ported over. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga still needs more time, so this very late port makes sense.
