Marvel Rivals came out 3 days ago, and it already accumulated a surprisingly gigantic player base. SteamDB already reported over 200,000 concu🌄rrent players a few hours after it went live, but now are giving us a much clearer picture.
That’s right, Marvel Rivals reached more than 10 million players all over the world in 72 hours, which is really impressive for a brand-new free-to-play multiplayer title like this one. What’s even more interesting is that this announcement indirectly confirms the total number of players across all four platforms that the game is currently available on: Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
It seems people are playing Marvel Rivals on different home consoles and not just on PC, which is quite understandable, considering that the game has cross-play across all platforms. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if NetEase Games decides to port it over to other devices in the near future, like smartphones and the Nintendo Switch’s successor.
Will Marvel Rivals retain all these players in the next few years?
In just a few days, Marvel Rivals became a huge success and there are already many gamers claiming that it should be the new standard for free-to-play multiplayer experiences, maܫinly due to the fact that it has 33 unlocked characters from the start, its gameplay is very accessible, and its monetization can be easily ignored.
However, as impressive as these 10 million players are, it’s crucial for NetEase to actually retain their attention for the next few years, which is not always easy to do. As long as they keep adding more modes, arenas, and characters, Marvel Rivals will likely keep amassing new players without any issues. Fortunately for both the company and fans, the Marvel universe has a huge cast of iconic superheroes, super villains, and locations to choose from, so keeping this huge player base engaged for many years shouldn’t be that hard, as long as NetEase doesn’t make any questionable decisions that may enrage them.
