Fighting Games were a mistake…

[Update: that Neco-Arc and Maไsh Kyrielight will be available to download on all platforms August 19. The two DLC characters will be free for all players.]

Pack it up, it’s all over. Following a wild few years of fighting game DLC characters, from The Walking Dead’s Negan and Final Fantasy‘s Noctis to The Terminator, RoboCop, and Rambo, developer Project Lumina has decided to take it one step too far. The irrepressible, unstoppable, unavoidable meme nightmare Neco-Arc is headed to the roster of Melty Blood: Type Lumina.

Neco-Arc, the bizarrely drawn parody mascot of the Tsuskihime franchise, has finally decided the time is right to take her pint-sized form and terrifying, oversized eyes into the ring, where she will square off against the mystical maidens of Melty Blood. According to the developer, Neco’s fighting style will be entirely “luck” based, with special moves and skills breaking out with seemingly random effects. Of course, her tiny bod will also aid her in regards to having an equally tiny hurt box.

We are promised a comedic move set full of surprises! Behold this utter silliness…

On the slightly more serious side, Type Lumina is getting a more “traditional” DLC character in the form of demi-servant Mash Kyrielight. Kyrielight — accompanied by her enormous, intricate Shield of Galahad — has been designed as a beginner character, harnessing a fistful of easy-to-understand moves and a strong but defensive playstyle… She isn’t hauling around that huge shield just for show, after all.

Both Neco-Arc and Mash Kyrielight will launch at some point during this summer and will, once again, be free to download for all players. Project Lumina notes that two further characters will be joining the party this winter, and the developer deserves plaudits for the generosity with which it has bestowed upon the niche fighter’s devoted community.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and N๊intendo Switch. The game is currently entering a staggered sales promotion. The base game can be purchased at a𒉰 discounted price right now on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, while the Deluxe Edition will receive a 35% discount and PS4 from August 4.
