Every Minecraft player knows the value in the Overworld’s ore collection, especially considering the superlative diamonds. While there haven’t been too many new minerals since its release, Mojang Studios has teased a new ore that could invigorate the franchise for the better.
The official Minecraft Twitter/X shows a post with a mysterious rock, where fans are already theorizing what it could be. Lodestone seems to be that they’ve narrowed it down to, as the rock in the image looks significantly similar to this one. Curiously enough, a type of lodestone is present in Minecraft, but it only has the capacity to alter the direction of a compass. Honestly, I completely forgot that this recipe existed, primarily because it’s not particularly useful. On the other hand, this new version may get it back on the radar by adding unique buffs.
Lodestone falls under the magnetite class in minerals, a category known for its magnetic properties. This means that if the theory turns out to be accurate, we may be getting a magnet in Minecraft, sticking to materials like iron and steel. Currently, this type of feature is only avaiඣlable through mo✤ds, luring objects over to a held magnet.
The process could work the same with the next major update, yet it could play out differently. Maybe we could even attach the magnet to the Mace and somehow create our own Mjolnir of sorts with its luring properties. I just hope lodestones will have slightly more benefits than the last ore we got, aka copper, from Caves and Cliffs. As a mineral, it doesn’t really do anything besides decorating and crafting a select few tools. I want something a little more practical than that, and lodestone could be the answer.
With the latest hint from Mojang Studios, more information on this mysterious rock could be coming soon. Based on the game’s previous update timeframes, the next major update will likely debut around Spring 2025. Until then, here’s to hoping that magnets will once and for all be added to Minecraft.
