On , the game holds a 90/100 score based on 75 critic reviews, making it universally acclaimed. In Destructoid’s Monster Hunter Wilds review, author Kristina Ebanez calls the game a “hallmark of excellence.”

However, some aspects of these reviews have raised concerns among experienced Monster Hunter players, particularly those familiar with Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter World. Several reviews describe the game as “easy” in different ways. At the same time, she clarified that “each battle becomes more challenging than the last, especially when the monsters are capable of one-hit kills.” While Monster Hunter Wilds may ꧂have an accessible entry point,𒐪 it still presents significant challenges.

Reviewers’ comments have fueled 24 hours of ongoing discussion on Reddit and Twitter, with players debating whether Monster Hunter Wilds may be too easy at launch, and if that’s a problem at all.

Is Monster Hunter Wilds too easy?

“I don’t think Monster Hunter Wilds is too easy,” Destructoid’s reviewer Kristina Ebanez told me. “I definitely struggled to get through a lot of fights since the boss’ change up their tactics quite a lot. Some fights were absolutely brutal and took a while to complete, especially when you’re nearing the mid to late stages.”

Comparing its difficulty to previous Monster Hunter titles, she acknowledges that Wilds is more approachable. “Everything is explained well and there’s a lot of user-friendly mechanics. But there’s certainly still a challenge even with all the accessible features.”

Some players argue that similar concerns arose when Monster Hunter World launched in 2018. “They also said World was easy, but I remember [players] getting stomped by Anjanath,” one user , referencing one of the first major difficulty spikes in World.

“People forget everyone was new once, the world doesn’t revolve around veteran hunters,” another player added, emphasizing that lowering the skill floor for new players doesn’t necessarily mean a lack of challenge.
