Making their debut...

Kyurem was first introduced to the Pokédex in Generation V alongside two other Legendary Pokémon, Reshiram and Zekrom. It’s already possible to get Kyurem in its basic (unfused) form in Pokémon GO, but the two Black and White forms are set to make their debut during the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova e👍vents in New Tapei City and Los Angeles on February 21, later being released to players around the world during the Global event on March 1.

From the beginning of the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova Global event on March 1, players everywhere will begin to encounter either Black or White Kyurem in 5-star raids. Sadly, defeating these two Legendaries will not be enough to bag you an encounter to catch oꦰne, but you aඣre guaranteed an encounter with an unfused Kyurem if you get through the raid.

Using this unfused Kyurem, you’ll be able to use DNA Splicers to fuse Kyurem with either Zekrom or Reshiram, ending up wit🌱h a Black or White Kyurem, respectively.

Shiny versions of both Black and White Kyurem will also immediately be available from the start of the Pokémon GO Tour:ꦉ Unova Global event, but﷽ getting your hands on one of those is purely down to luck.

How to fuse Kyurem

Fusion is not a new mechanic in Pokémon GO. It’s been used previously with Necrozma, fusing it with either Solgaleo or Lunala to get Dusk or Dawn Wings Necrozma. If you’ve already done that, then you’ll have a good idea of ho🐠w this will work for Kyurem. If not, then here’s a breakdown.

To create a Bla🌠ck or White Kyurem, you’ll need th𒉰e following:

Fused PokémonFused withCost
Black KyuremZekrom1,000 Volt Fusion Energy
30 Kyurem Candy
30 Zekrom Candy
White KyuremReshiram1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy
30 Kyurem Candy
30 Reshiram Candy

How to get Fusion Energy

Every time you encounter and defeat a Black or Wh🔜ite Zekrom in a 5-star raid, you’ll earn yourself some Fusion Energy specific to the form. Black Kyrum will reward Volt Fusion Energy, while White Kyurem will reward Blaze Fusion Energy.

Stocking up the necessary 1,000 of each type is likely to take a fair amount of time and lots of successfully compl🔴eted rai𒀰ds, but it’s definitely worth it for Black and White Kyurem.

Even when you do manage to hoard away the 1,000 Fusion Energy needed for each fusion, there is still the issue of Candy. Kyurem, like all other Legendary Pokémon🙈, will only pick up one Candy per 20km walked. As you need 30 for each fusion, that’s a total of 600km or triple that if you also need to collect Zekrom or Reshiram Candy as well. That’s a lot of walking, even for the most outdoorsy type.

With that said, you can use Rare Candy that you’ve hoarded away instead of specific Pokémon Candy, making this process much easier. Rare Candy is rewarded for Research Tasks through the GO Battle League and for completing 🌠Raids.

Black and White Kyurem attacks learned by fusing

If you happen to have a Kyurem obtained from a 5-star raid during the Holiday 2022 ღevent, then it will have an event-specific Charged Attack called Glaciate. If a Kyurem with this Charged Attack is fused, this attack will transform into one of two attacks ex🎀clusive to Black or White Kyurem:

  • Black Kyurem’s Freeze Shock
  • White Kyurem’s Ice Burn

If you don’t have a Kyurem from the Holiday 2022 event, don’t worry; there is still a way to get a Kyurem that knows Glaciate. When the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova Global event begins on March 1, all players will gain access to the “It’s Not Over Yet” Special Research story.

You’ll have a choice between a Zekrom path or a Reshiram path. If you go for Zekrom, any Kyurem obtained after defeating a Black Kyurem will know Glaciate. If you select Reshiram, you’ll need to defeat White Kyurem in raids to get a Kyurem with the Glaciate attack.
