When do My Nintendo points expire? Well it depends on the type of point it is! Let’s go over both briefly as we head into the holiday season.

So My Nintendo Platinum Points expire after six months from collection. It’s important to game the system as much as possible: meaning, there are ways to bank missions and not actually complete them until you need them. Gold Points, which are more like cash that can be used directly for eShop payments, expire in 12 months. There’s a lot more leeway here with the expanded timeframe, but note that since a lot of folks make purchases in December, you might be coming up on a time period where a bunch will expire.

How to earn more My Nintendo Points for the holidays

As a reminder, if you want physical rewards, you can find our full Platinum Point guide here, which has been updated with details on weekly missions: bookmark it for when you need quick points for a reward. A handful of points is incredibly easy to get, as that’s basically just 15 minutes with Super Mario Run, or a quick 𒆙sign-on to the 3DS or Wii U 3Shop. Also remember that any shipments are bundled together, so you can pay a flat rate for multiple items instead of paying it each time. Just know that items go out of stock on My Nintendo frequently, and some are never restocked.
