‘Trust us’
Many a Nintendo fan were met with disappointment one week ago when a new Metroid game was announced, but it wasn’t anything like the Metroid game that they actually wanted. It didn’t take long for the Internet to organize a petition for that game’s cancellation. Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has seen those efforts, and he says to those people “Trust us.”
In an E3 interview with , Fils-Aime makes it clear that he’s aware of the petition, and insists that fans just need to place some faith in Nintendo. He cited The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker as a similar situation. “So, the game is developed, becomes one of the most beloved games of all time, one of the most highly-rated games of all time, so I use that example to say: ‘We know what we’re doing, trust us, play the game and then we can have a conversation,'” he said.
Continuing, Fils-Aime showed some awareness by stating “Look, we know that the fans want a straight Samus Aran game.” But, he doesn’t think an imminent reveal aligns with Nintendo’s marketing strategy. “[Other companies] announce a project that you may not see for five, six years. It’s just not the way we do things. We know the community wants to see a straight-up Metroid game. We know it.”
Just because Nintendo knows fans want a proper Samus game doesn’t mean it’ll ever deliver. But, if it eventually does, you know damn well it’ll be on its own terms.
